Review

"Thank goodness, it's back!" Gnomon, V17, n1, 1997 ..."an ideal introduction to the physics of the interstellar medium." The Observatory "One must bear in mind what Dyson and Williams were aiming to achieve. They wished to provide an introduction of appropriate level and length for an in-depth third-year undergraduate course. They Succeeded. In addition, they produced a book to which a wide variety of postgraduate students and practicing astronomers can turn. Such a reader can quickly get a background in an area that may touch on but may not be at the heart of their research." Tom Hartquist, A&G April 2003, Vol.44 goodness, it's back!" Good Book 13 April 2006
Format:Paperback
I found this book really clear. I was using it along side a lecture course, and found it cleared up any confusion i had. It is clearly written and an all round good course book. I used it in my 3rd year of my astrophysics degree, i think it is probably a bit too advanced for 1st year, and maybe 2nd year, but definately suitable for 3rd year undergraduates.

Good Introductory Text 31 May 2000
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
A concise and clear introduction to the interstellar medium. Chapters 5 to 7 on radiatively excited regions and gas dynamics are particularly well written (half the book). The rest of the book is perhaps too concise to cover adequately topics such as dust properties and star formation.
