Ideal for young readers 19 Nov. 2012
By Maverick - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
I concur with Anand.

I got this book when I was in 5th grade. It was given to me as a present for my birthday and it was the first "physics" book I had seen.

I absolutely loved it. I used kept reading this book for almost three years - until that is - someone handed me a copy of "Surely you are joking" by Richard Feynman. After that I put the book down.

This book is probably one of the best presentations of key ideas in physics that I have come across. I found it hugely useful when shaping my thinking on this stuff at an early age.

I recommend it to educators as a starting point for physics discussions with younger audiences.

I have been looking at textbooks in US Schools recently and I found them very distracting. I think this book is better in that sense.

A very pleasant read! 15 Nov. 2011

George Gamov is one of the authors. So I don't have to say much. I have very fond memories of this book. My dad bought this for me 20 years back when I was a high school student planning for a BS degree in Physics. I read it from the front page to the last page which covers all the standard physics topics. The illustrations are so beautiful. It is like reading a comics with the additional benefit of learning physics. Topics discussed are centuries old. So there is no question of this book becoming outdated. Even after 300 years from now, it will still be useful. This would be a wonderful present for any high school kid or freshmen physics majors. For me it is a collectible.
