5.0 out of 5 stars Let me hear your body talk!! 16 Nov 2001
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
No more country ballads here i am afraid, nope she goes full blown into rocky-pop, and full of great songs like the classic 'Physical', carried away is one of my favourites. Its just a classic olivia album, well worth getting if you like 80's pop, or just a fan of little Livvy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible 19 Mar 2012
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
I came here wanting to wax lyrical about the fantastic sound of this SACD and found others had done it for me!
It has to be said that the Japanese know how to master CDs - this knocks every other version into second place by a big margin - it sounds beautiful so congratulations to Masaru Takagi for his work.
The only caveat is that it is NOT a hybrid disc and therefore will ONLY play on a SACD player and not an ordinary CD player. It is a straightforward 2 channel stereo transfer so no fancy surround trickery but if you love Olivia you have got to hear this even if it means buying an SACD player for the privilege! 5.0 out of 5 stars What a voice! 1 Oct 2001
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
If you associate Olivia Newton John with slghtly cheesey Country ballads, as I used to, you should definitely get this album! This is Olivia's 80's Pop album. But the songs are ALL fantastic- and all quite 'unusual', in that they are sophisticated (chordally) and show off her voice to its full potential.(Listen to "Falling"-- what a voice!!) For me, "Landslide" is just the best. I can't recall the producer of this CD, but I'd love to know what he is doing now-- he's a genius! BUY THIS ALBUM. And if you don't like it, send it to me!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Let's get into SACD! 2 Mar 2012
Format:Audio CD
Olivia Newton-John's second SACD seemingly makes more commercial sense than her first, last year's Come On Over. Physical became her biggest selling worldwide (non soundtrack) album and obviously the title track did reasonably well as a single too!

Physical has been released on CD a fair few times and has never sounded bad, in all honesty. I was generally a big fan of the Japanese 2010 40th Anniversary box set which featured 10 remastered ONJ SHM CDs. However, after repeated listening, I decided the 2010 version of Physical wasn't actually that good... It's quite compressed (aren't most of them these days?) and there's a unacceptable amount of distortion on tracks like Landslide, Carried Away and Make A Move On Me which I hadn't previously noticed on other versions.

That said, I have no such qualms over this new 2012 SACD. It's simply beautiful and is The Best The Album Has Ever Sounded (how many more times will I say that!) Firstly, all the distortion has vanished and the sound is balanced, smooth and totally natural. Physical isn't as 'musical' an album as Come On Over. It was the 80s and there are synths, but the sound is particularly involving on ballads like Falling, The Promise (The Dolphin Song) and Carried Away. Opening track Landslide sounds amazing without you having to risk partial hearing loss. The song can sound a little shrill and forced but not here. I haven't been this happy with the album since that cold October night in 1981 when I played the LP for the first time.

Regular ONJ fans like myself search for the definintive versions of her albums and while this doesn't include any bonus tracks and is very expensive, I simple can't imagine it ever sounding any better. Yes, a 5.

5.0 out of 5 stars Olivia's best album from top to bottom 2 July 2003
By Daniel Jolley HALL OF FAME TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Audio CD
Having strutted her stuff to an adoring public in Grease and survived the horror that was the film Xanadu, Olivia Newton-John released Physical and basically took over the world of music for a period of many months in 1981. The title track was simply huge, to a degree I have seen no other song come close to equaling in the 20+ years since its release; if my memory serves me correctly, the song was number one at least ten consecutive weeks, which is really quite mind-boggling. To some degree, the other many merits of this album are overshadowed by the title song's accomplishments. Not only is this Olivia's best-selling album ever, though, it is also arguably her very best from top to bottom. Make a Move on Me was a pretty big hit in and of itself, with its energy and the kind of lustful innocence only Olivia could deliver. Another great song many listeners may remember is Landslide, the energy and catchiness of which set the tone for the entire album. Of course, no Olivia album would be complete without a touching ballad or two. Fallen is a slow and moving song, but the truly special and vintage Olivia love song on this album is Carried Away. This Olivia is strong and sure of herself, though, as she more than proves in the very next track Recovery. Actually, Love Make Me Strong, with its strong beat and passionate delivery, proves to be an even more forceful song than Recovery. My favorite song on the album, though, is Strangers Touch due to its sizzling delivery brimming with even more passion and sultriness than the suggestive mega-hit Physical.

Olivia's earnest environmentalist feelings are expressed well in a couple of tracks....

In my opinion, there's not a bad song to be found on this album, and strangely enough the title track now seems to be overshadowed a bit by all of the impressive music surrounding it. If you are an Olivia fan, this is definitely the album to own. Read more ›
