Phule Me Twice 13 Mar 2009
Format:Paperback
I don't know how much influence the co-author had on this one, but this storyline carries better than the previous volume (A Phule and his Money) which was 'thin' at best. So much more going on in this one - it may be that Asprin got more of a say in this one than the last collaborative effort. I'm not generally a fan of his co-authored works. Glad we got a decent advesary this time - the hated Major Botchup added a much needed foil to the Captain Jester hero figure. (It would benefit from the readers foreknowledge of previous storylines, so don't read this #4 without having read the others.)

If you were a fan of the first two books, the characters, the warm feeling you could get watching the misfits and no-hopers turned around by pleasant management and careful handling, abandon all hope. Don't be conned into expecting another book in the same line, they are not worth reading, let alone buying...

If you were looking for the optimism of the earlier books, look elsewhere. This series has died.

Dull as ditchwater 24 Aug 2007
Format:Paperback
With this book Robert Asprin follows his usual formula of ruining a good series after the first couple of books. As with the Myth series, in the first two volumes of Phule Asprin created a believable universe with interesting characters dealing with realistic but amusing situations. Unfortunately Phule Me Twice sees a degeneration into lazy writing and half-baked plots that are more typical of a mediocre US sit-com. There are no surprises and nothing to engage the reader. Possibly suitable for a young teenager but I recommend that adults steer clear of this one; especially if you enjoyed the earlier books.
