5.0 out of 5 stars Lightroom's Rosetta Stone 29 Aug 2009
This is a clearly written book, which explains Lightroom's key concepts and functions from a real world user perspective. Its easy to read, well edited and cross referenced, and can be used successfully either as a progressive course of study or as a 'dip in' reference source. The remarkably small number of pages are laid out logically with very informative screen-grabs and photo-illustrations, which enable you to make sense of the text very quickly. Unlike many books of this type Photoshop Lightroom 2 Made Easy manages to be both a comprehensive introductory guide and to provide considerable insight into the further possibilities of Lightroom, without either on the one hand patronising or on the other confusing the reader.

I have tried on many occasions to make sense of Lightroom and until now failed dismally. For me this book has been a real revelation: In short my entire approach to post processing and file management has now changed radically as a result of Lightroom's concepts and methodologies being unlocked by Sean's book. If you're new to Lightroom then this book is simply a must. If you've struggled with deciphering the application over a period as I have then this book will be like finding the Rosetta Stone. Recommended without reservation!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lightroom Made Easy? 7 Jun 2009
Other Lightroom books are already on the market. However for beginning Lightroom users they can be quite intimidating, with two of the most popular books totaling more than 400 and 600 pages each. This current book provides a clear guide and summary of Lightroom in some 150 pages. It is an excellent choice for beginners and a good summary that more advanced users can refer back to. There is a nice list of web resources that users can refer to for more information about Lightroom, including the authors own website. So should you buy this book? If you are just starting out in Lightroom or find it intimidating, the answer is a definite yes. It is Lightroom made easy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lightroom made easy 9 Oct 2009
A well put together book which is clear, concise and easy to understand. At 160 pages its straight to the point, there is no packing here. Its well illustrated and easy to follow.

If you are new to LR this book is a great read and ultimately belongs on the computer table as a reference manual.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential Purchase! 5 Oct 2010
By Mack
Prior to purchasing this book I had requested it through my local library...and then kept it for over 2 months! Eventually became guilty at keeping it to myself and bought my own copy which is now flagged with sticky labels for the different techniques which I am still learning. Cannot recommend this enough - I'm now getting much more from Lightroom than I was before and enjoying a great program more fully!
Update: 14 months on and even though I'm now using Lightroom 3.6 this is still my most used reference to Lightroom. An excellent purchase

5.0 out of 5 stars Light and Easy 30 Jan 2010

This book is pitched at a perfect level. It explains all the functionality of the software without going overboard with technicalities. It is not a lesson in what settings make the better picture, that is for you to find out, but it shows you effect of each tool. It does offer guidance in how to manage your photo library and version management. I am already a user of Adobe Photoshop CS4 so it was an easy book to follow and I recommend it to all digital photographers, not just professionals.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not one I would recommend 12 Oct 2012
Sorry to say this is not a book I would recommend to anyone. Right from the start features of Lightroom are mentioned on every page but lack any explanation or illustration until much later. This makes it both disjointed and difficult to follow. Furthermore many of the screen-shots that are supposed to help illustrate the text are too small to see clearly - even with the aid of a magnifier!
Writing on a subject aimed at those with no prior knowledge requires a great deal of preparation, structure and logical progression for it to be successful, unfortunately there is little evidence of this in this book.
The first chapter 'Basics' frequently presented a jumble of unhelpful information - for instance 'Identity Plate Setup' on page 17 gave no explanation on what an Identity Plate was or what benefit it would provide if I used it, only on page 125 did I get some indication of its purpose. In the second chapter 'File Management' gave no information on the hierarchy of Folders, Catalogues and Collections or even how they fit together. In sheer frustration I gave up trying to learn anything meaningful after this chapter.

5.0 out of 5 stars The complex made simple(r) 16 Aug 2011
By RR Waller TOP 500 REVIEWER

Photoshop Lightroom 2 is wonderful programme but, as one would expect considering the range of programme, it is complicated at two levels: what can be achieved in the digital darkroom and how to achieve it.
This programme is clearly explained by someone who knows it well and, more importantly, has the ability to "think into" the mind of someone who does not, imagining the types of questions that would be asked.
It deals with the basics, gradually working up to the more complex and demanding and, throughout, there are drawings, illustrations and photographs to show what is being discussed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Photoshop Lightroom 2 21 Jan 2011

Handy reference for understanding the program provided by this useful and well laid out publication. It would have been helpful to look inside the book prior to purchase and ring binding would help to keep the appropriate page accessible when using it. Still a good purchase however.
