Product Description

Product Description

Photoshop Elements 7 includes lots of new tools for sprucing up your photos, like the Scene Cleaner that lets you get rid of unwanted elements and the Smart Brush that makes touch-ups a breeze. But the one thing you won't find in Elements is reader-friendly guidance on how to get the most out of this powerful program. Enter Photoshop Elements 7: The Missing Manual, ready to explain not only how the tools and commands work, but when to use them.

With this bestselling book (now in its 5th edition), you'll learn everything from the basics of loading photos into Elements to the new online photo-sharing and storage service that Adobe's offering (for free!) at Photoshop.com. There's so much to Elements 7 that knowing what to do -- and when to do it -- is tricky. That's why this book carefully explains all the tools and options by putting each one into a clear, easy-to-understand context.

  • Learn to import, organize, and fix photos quickly and easily
  • Repair and restore old and damaged photos, and retouch any image
  • Jazz up your pictures with dozens of filters, frames, and special effects
  • Learn which tools the pros use -- you'll finally understand how layers work!
  • Create collages and photo layout pages for scrapbooks and other projects
  • Fix your photos online and synch the changes to your own photo library

As always, author Barbara Brundage lets you know which features work well, which don't, and why -- all with a bit of wit and good humor. Dive into Adobe's outstanding photo editor and find out why this Missing Manual is the bestselling book on the topic.

About the Author

Barbara Brundage is the author of Photoshop Elements 6: The Missing Manual, and Photoshop Elements 6 for Mac: The Missing Manual, an Adobe Community Expert, and a member of Adobe's prerelease groups for Elements 3, 4, 5, and 6. She's been teaching people how to use Photoshop Elements since it first came out in 2001. Barbara first started using Elements to create graphics for use in her day job as a harpist, music publisher, and arranger. Along the way, she joined the large group of people finding a renewed interest in photography thanks to digital cameras. If she can learn to use Elements, you can, too!

I have upgraded from Elements 4 to Elements 7 so wanted a manual to understand what was new / different. Unfortunately Scott Kelby's book wasn't available in time for Christmas so I bought this instead. It is a fairly weighty tome and seems to cover most subjects well. The main shortcoming for me is the quality of the picture printing. On a number of pictures it is difficult to see the detail, or the difference between the "before" & "after" shots, which for a photo editing manual is a major drawback.

If you want a decent manual on Elements 7 this is fine, but if like me you want to see in print what to expect on screen I would consider other options as well.

I was all at sea with Photoshop Elements 7 until I bought this. It's a big, comprehensive, easy-to-read book; I really can't imagine a better one for the job. It is, of course, a shame that PE7 doesn't come with any kind of manual of its own, but for the money, and indeed for twice the money, this is superb value and essential for the PE7 user.

THE manual... 13 Feb 2009
Format:Paperback
This is a very good investment! As the Adobe Photoshop Elemements 7 software package doesn't come with a manual you're on your own finding out the numerous options and functions in the program, which can be quite a struggle if you're not a daily user of the program.
The Missing Manual is great in that sense, it is exactly what the title suggests: it's a manual. It's a HUGE reference database containing a description of probably every Elements function.
There are also a lot of example before/after-style images in the book which help a lot by giving an idea on what a certain function does.

The only negative I can think of regarding this book is the not-so-good quality of the images in the book. They're clear, but they're not printed in a glossy way.

But such a great book for this price: go for it!
