More About the Author

Since 1991, Gary David Bouton has authored 25 books covering different topics, but they all revolve around a central theme: how does today's individual express themself artistically? The author has been illustrating professionally for over 30 years, and Mr. Bouton makes a point to share with readers not simply what a graphics application's tools do, but how they can be used to produce whatever is on the reader's mind.

Gary has written the Inside Adobe Photoshop series, several CorelDRAW manuals including The Official Guide, books on video editing, 3D modeling, and creating Web content. Most recently, Gary has finished authoring the Xara Xtreme Official Guide.

In the spare time he doesn't have, Gary enjoys composing music and is an active practitioner of what he teaches through his books. Currently, the author works with video producers creating CGI and other post effects for music videos.

The author and his wife Barbara host TheBoutons.com, home of The Pixel Dust Forum, which supports diverse and lively discussions on everything (but mainly computer graphics). The Boutons also support their books at their website.

5.0 out of 5 stars Elements is a Surprisingly Strong Package 3 July 2006
By John Matlock - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
You might consider Photoshop Elements to be Photoshop CA Lite. The price for Elements is very light when compared with Photoshop. Checking Amazon's price for Photoshop CS - $575.99, and Photoshop Elements is $84.99. In my view, probably wrong, I consider that Elements is what Photoshop was a couple of revisions ago. It is probably not really the several year old code, but Photoshop CS code that has had a few features removed. If you're a full fledged professional whose livelyhood depends on software, buy the high priced version. If you're really only an advanced (even very advanced) amateur, save the money. Elements has grown so that it is really quire powerful.

This book is written with the assumption that you know very little about digital photograph editing. It starts with the very simple, i.e. installing and making Elements work on your PC. From there is progresses to every more sophisticated, ever more complex techniques.

It's an interesting cross between a tutorial, step-by-step book and a reference book. If you're starting out on Elements, this would be an excellent place to begin your journey.
3.0 out of 5 stars Bought this because last (cheaper) one was no good. 14 Dec 2012
By W. Markuly - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Bought a cheaper book first and it was pretty much useless, so I got this one and got some good out of it. Don't do all for you as photo shop is a pretty complex produce, but I am using it often now and this book helped.
