I was looking for an overview of etching techniques in preparation for an introductory printmaking course I was undertaking. This describes all the stages involved clearly and with enough detail to help you understand the process. From drypoint to photopolymer, it covers everything, including materials used, such as types of plates, paper, presses, ink etc etc.

One criticism is that the book doesn't go into any detail about the actual technique of making lines in metal or ground, or not in such a way as to prepare you for the difficulties involved in doing so with control and precision. However, this is something that I think it may well be futile to attempt in a book, as it is very individual and only comes with practice.

Overall, this is excellent and I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to understand the processes involved in intaglio printmaking.

Really great overview of acid etching print-making. In a pocket-sized book, contains just the right amount of detail explaining a bit of history along with contemporary print-making while remaining succinct and clear. Includes a number of images showing the range of prints that can be made with acid etching and aquatint, as well as step-by-step explanation of the procedures involved. Bought this to accompany an intro course in print-making at a local art school. Recommended.

A concise study of etching, including details on plates, tools, acids, presses and blankets. I would have likde information on dry point etching, which the author mentions as being in a successive book copy.

well out of date, no mention of non-toxic printmaking with Akua Intaglio Inks for one; in desperate need of updating overall. Check out Keith Howard's book or several other recent publication.
