"This is another great book for all of those who are starting to learn the tools and techniques of photography. It is written in a clear, and well-illustrated set of exercises, that will help you build all of your photo skills, and make quality images. This is a really well structured book, easy to follow and understand with plenty of diagrams. The 4th edition has the added chapter of still life which the 3rd doesn't have.
My only disappointment with this book was the amount of film photography literature that has been cut out as this book mainly focuses on digital processes. I don't see why they couldn't keep the film stuff in and add to it? It would have been nice to have the comparisons of both processes on specific subjects such as solarisation/sabattier effect, and toning and tinting.... It would have been good to show the foundations of what the digital side is based on; as good and convenient as digital is it is always good to grasp the basics in the darkroom first.

Although I have an HNC in photography I was recommended to purchase this book. It is extremely well written and laid out, and easy to understand. It has practical assignments to complete which reinforces the learning. It is recommended as a course book for 'A' level students of photography but more experienced photographers will find it very useful. Photography Foundations for Art and Design: The creative photography handbookI would further add that there are not many books of this quality and coverage for this level of learning.

An excellent book and most strongly recommended.

Having borrowed this gem of a book from the college library repeatedly I brought this to allow me to study more at home. It's definitely well worth the buy, would love to have it in physical form but the price is currently too much.

Excellent book, teacher of photography looking for a book that would be useful for my students (and me). Great project and examples, basic elements broken down into manageable bites. Would advise any novices, students, amateurs to get this book.

I really think given all the under-lining and felt pen scoring that this book was seriously overpriced. I knew it was used but this was alot worse than i was expecting given the price.
