My Favourite Ever 22 Nov 2008
Format:Paperback
A brilliant book. It's the antidote to my favourite photographer joke: "What's the difference between photographers and artists?" "Two artists can meet and not talk about their brushes." This slim little volume is very readable and helps me remember why I want to photograph. If you only ever buy one book about photography, this should be it. It won't tell you how to do it - that's what the internet is for - it will get you excited about why you're doing it. At the risk of repeating myself, simply brilliant.

Got this book on the recommendation of David DuChemin. Can't agree with the other review. It has sound ideas in it but the presentation is dated with little in the way of images to illustrate the point being made. You're invited to think of an image instead. Get the DuChemin Books if you want all these ideas and a lot more besides. DuChemin obviously has a nostalgia about this book but he has overtaken his tutor I think. As for the one book you should buy - get Micheal Freeman's The Photographers Eye or DuChemin's Within the Frame.

The authour is Canadian, and I bought this whilst visiting friends in Canada. I just recommended it to a Facebook friend, and I realised that I probably never read it, but just used the photos for inspiration. As the title of my review states, the photos tend to be of an impressionist nature, and are also fairly minimalist. However, they allowed me to identify faults in my own photos - and correct them.
