4.0 out of 5 stars Very basic text by a master 22 Jun. 2010
By George Foxworth - Published on
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Lewis Kemper is one of Canon's elite Photographers of Light, and as such is a great photographer and wonderful teacher. Consequently I was expecting some real insights into photographing the magnificent National Park that is Yosemite. And there are insights here. They are, however, somewhat basic with such tips on where to stand to photograph inside the Inn, or where to get the best "postcard" shots. I know Kemper's work well enough to know that copying his method will give great shots. I wanted more, however, in the way of suggestions for detail shots in the wilderness. It's a good book for someone starting out in nature photography. It's not so much for more experienced photographers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Photos of Yosemite National Park! 12 Jun. 2012

Photographing Yosemite Digital Field Guide by Lewis Kemper

I'm excited to put to use what I've read about for many of the sites within Yosemite National Park. It's a very thorough guide which explains the camera settings, exposure, lenses, and filters needed for a great shot. Mr. Kemper, the author, even goes further by telling the reader where to get the best shot. He suggests many vantage points for each site. Mr. Kemper also tells you when to get the best shot, such as sunrise, sunset, or moonlight. I like that the author tells us about each location by describing, "Why It's Worth a Photograph". There are maps included throughout the book and a larger one on a two page spread showing the complete park and listing the sites and locations alphabetically. Lastly, Mr. Kemper explains in his introduction, "I want to use it as a starting place". He continues with, "Create your own vision and portfolio of Yosemite images." Looking forward to doing just that with Mr. Kemper's help!

Bought this book for upcoming trip to Yosemite. It would appear to be very helpful in the location from which you can get the best photos. Never having been to Yosemite before it gives you a lot of insight in getting around to get the best photos, which will also give you the best view of these wonderful natural wonders. I will update my evaluation when I return from my trip and tell you all how accurate the book was...
