... Not the most original title I know, but do buy it!
I confess I had never heard of Ginny Felch when I read about this book, but I am now totally in awe of her work and knowledge.
Somehow it manages to be relevant and incredibly informative to both professional photographers like me, and yet also great for parents wanting to improve their own pictures.

Like many photographers, I have dipped in and out of lots of books but this one stood out from the others for me. It is beautifully written, enhanced by wonderfully inspiring images and a joy to consume. It has just the right amount of technical info, but what I found most inspiring was that it shows you how beautiful portraits can be made by looking around you, and seeing beauty and light rather than getting too wrapped up in the technical stuff.

I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone who simply wants to take a good (better) photograph of a child, it is invaluable.

I hope the author can be persuaded to write another!

fantastic! 26 Nov 2008
Format:Paperback
Bought this book because I want to take better photographs of my own baby, and also because I am considering childrens photography as a potential career.

This book is excellent, particularly for the first objective but also for the second.

Very easy to read, covers all bases, and my photography has definitely improved as a result of reading this book.

For Beginners Only! 4 April 2011
By Melanie
Format:Paperback
I have rather good skills using my DSLR camera and I am currently getting experience doing portrait of both young and less young people. I purchased this book to get further insight about photographing children.

Over half of the book is about VERY basic photography tips, such as the difference between the auto mode and aperture priority mode. My camera doesn't even have an auto mode and I wouldn't fancy using it if it had one... The other half of the book is not very inspiring to me. Interestingly, the best pictures included in the book are not from either authors. I got curious and searched the internet to find the photographer (bluecandyphotography) and I actually get more inspiration from their (free!) blog than from this book.

This book will be ok for you if you are a new parent (or grand parent, auntie, etc) who just bought a consumer level DSLR to photograph your baby. However, if you can shoot in Manual mode and have a clue about how to deal with depth of field then you'll be just as disappointed as I am.
