Paul Hicks "Photographing Butterflies and other Insects" was my first serious introduction to close up and macro photography. It was written before the digital revolution, which seems to be a problem for many people, with books of this era. I actually owned a digital camera, when I bought the book and found Mr Hicks suggestions and advice invaluable.

It's all here, from what to look for in selecting equipment, stacking and manipulating lenses, lighting and flash techniques, composition etc. Accompanied by some very fine photographs, that should inspire anyone interested in the subject.

In the conclusion Mr Hicks states that his aim was to give the reader sufficient information to establish a good technique so that you could give full rein to your own creativity. I think that he achieved this admirable and I would recommend sourcing this book to anyone interested in this branch of photography.

This book is a little dated but still useful for macro photographers. I think this one could do with an update.
