Product Description

Review

"The 377 colour photographs are without exception truly stunning.... The plates are conveniently placed next to the relevant species account and show all plumage, both in flight and perched.... The authors are to be applauded for their expertise, while not forgetting the problems of the beginner, making this book ideal for both the novice and the profession: there is something new for everyone."

All the distinguishing marks described have been tested in a wide range of field conditions by the authors as well as the colleagues and students who have learned from them. This is a photographic guide to North American diurnal birds of prey and includes an species, common and rare. It features 14 discussions of specific problems in practical identification.

Great place to start with raptor identification. 24 April 1999

Format:Hardcover
A good book to start your field and in hand bird identification specialty book shelf.

The pictures of birds flying over head are much improved over the paperback Peterson series book "Hawks" by Clark and Wheeler.

Bought this as present for 11 & 12 yr. old grandsons. They do alot of camping, have hiked Hawk Mountain and generally love the outdoors. It's very descriptive with beautiful pictures. I read through the whole book before I wrapped it. :)

The guide was exactly as posted. It was exactly what I needed to identify the juvenile bald eagles we had this winter. Thank you for your prompt shipping.
