Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

The HP PhotoSmart 735 compact digital camera offers an impressive specification, including automatic image enhancement and an optional quick-action PC dock. HP hasn't been given the credit it deserves for its range of cameras: coming to digital imaging from the computer side rather than from conventional photography means it isn't first in people's thoughts when it comes cameras. The PhotoSmart 735 shows again that HP should be well up there with the leaders.

A chunky but comfortable compact design, using just two AA batteries for power, this new camera continues HP's relationship with Pentax by using a Pentax 3x zoom lens, to which it adds 5x digital zoom of its own. The CCD sensor has 3.2 megapixels and 16 MB of internal memory to store your images. If you need more room than this, a Secure Digital slot is available in its right-hand end.

As well as a 38 mm full-colour LCD display on its back panel, a secondary mono LCD is used in the top to provide status information on things like battery status, image quality and remaining exposures. Three buttons next to the status display combine with a further six around the main screen to set the camera's options and navigate its well-structured menu system.

Controls for zoom level and shutter release are well placed and an additional small button on the top surface of the camera provides a video function, limited only by available memory. HP includes its InstantShare software with this camera, which enables you to upload your images to a secure server run by the company. It then automatically sends e-mails to selected contacts to enable them to view your private slideshow.

Image quality is good, and you can select manual aperture control as well as different modes for action, landscape, portrait and night photography. Those looking for a good 3 megapixel digital camera with a good range of options can't go wrong with the HP PhotoSmart 735. --Simon Williams

Having little experience with digital cameras, I needed something that was easy to use with intuitive menus.
I also wanted a camera that would take good photos - even when printed on A4 size paper.
Finally I wanted good value - don't we all?

I think that the HP 735 fits the bill in all these areas.
With a quick scan of the instruction book, all becomes very clear.

Taking pictures, short movie clips, recording sound with stills and movies are all a piece of cake.
Unloading the images to a PC could not be simpler. Plug in the USB and off they go with simple set up to make this an automatic or interactive process.
The quality of images I have produced so far are superb.

And as for value. For a 3.2 Mega Pix camera with 3 x Optical zoom and a 64Mb card thrown in - can't be beaten.

If you're in two minds about a digital - go for it.

This camera will do almost anything you ask of it. Picture quality is excellent, even when the shots are blown up to A4 size (quite an achievement for a camera with only 3.2mpx).
Like all digital cameras it eats batteries so it is best to use rechargeables. The menu system is simple and effective as being male i didn't bother reading the instruction manual.
The software included is also easy to use and install.
I would rate it above the olympus range simply because for the same money you get a larger zoom, internal memory AND an sd/mmc expansion slot, and a better looking casing.

After a lot of researching, it was clear to me that the HP735 camera represents excellent value for money. It has all features of the most advanced cameras (15xzoom) including a movie with sound (around 5 mins on a 64MB SD card).

The camera is very easy to use and the quality of the 2 and 3 Megapixels is superb for enlarging and modifiying your photographs.

The camera also has a very good Pentax lens - you can't really go wrong with one of these - and works well with its HP software or the Windows XP digital camera interface.

The only slight problem with this camera is it size but it's not heavy, just a little bulky.

For the price on Amazon you really cannot go wrong with this one, especially with the added bonus of a free 64MB SD card!

a dreadful piece of equipment
HP should stick to what they know, making printers. They should stay away from making software and cameras. The batteries last for about 20 - 30 pictures. Read more
