If you want to get the most out of the program then I'd say this book is indispensible. You need to have some idea about the software and its functions beforehand as other reviewers have noted but I'm talking basic hunt around the menus and play with the tools level. And surely you've done some exploring on the program, haven't you? Well written, mostly clear instructions (there are a few examples where I've had to re-read and work out what he means) and realistic- you can't fix everything and spotting when to stop is important. I'm far more impressed with the book than I am the software to be honest and if I'd trusted my instinct and avoided X4 after the unholy mess of X3 I'd be far happier! If you've got the software already and need good advice on restoring and retouching you won't go far wrong with this book. If you've not got software yet and are looking for software and a book then I'd advise shop around for different (Photoshop Elements, probably) software and then look for a book!

I also purchased this book from Amazon under the assumption that I was going to learn how to use some of the basics of Paintshop Pro X4. If you are looking for some basic tuition this is not the book for you.

I purchased this book in order that I might learn something about a software product. I was able to look at the contents of the book before purchase and was of the opinion that it would be suitable for my purposes. However when the book was delivered, it was pointed out by the author that he did not have time or space to go into the basics of editing software and "assumed" that his readers would have a 'fundemental' knowledge of the Paintshop Pro', which I had not. The consequential effect was that I was unable to LEARN anything from the book and had to return it to Amazon. This is definately a well produced book and the author is an expert in his field, however, I feel that the level of reader that this book is aimed at should be clearly stated. This is not a book about Corel Paintshop, it is about using the book as a guide to doing certain things using Paintshop Pro, it is not a guide as to how to use the software generally.

This is a very interesting one - I have Adobe as well and I find that each one has their own workout and I have had great fun with it. Well recommended
