"Mine To Give" just begs to be remixed and that is exactly what has happened to it. I'd guess at there being about 75 different versions of this tune (that may be an exaggeration), but none compare to the subtlety and brilliance of the original. "Can't Come Down" follows on beautifully, mainly because both revolve around the lyrics of Robert Owens.
Rupert Parkes, a.k.a. Photek, then resorts to his Drum'N'Bass roots with the chilling "Infinity", which in it's own right is worthy of release into the singles market, perhaps with the underground edges trimmed slightly.
Critics who know anything about music will not be able to knock the ingenuity and originality of this album, and would be foolish to do so.
I have been lucky enough to hear this work ahead of release and i haven't been so gripped by an album for a long time. It opens up with the trademark 'two men fighting with saucepans' beats and just builds and builds from there. Mr Parke has always paid great attention to his drum patterns remaining fiercely imaginative as he grew away from the Amen of the hardcore days, and the progression continues with this offering. What is new here are the noises, melodies and styles that bring them to life. A couple of tracks will get hammered for the dancefloor by New Skool Breaks DJs; and a couple should be remastered over the top of Bladerunner such is the mastery achieved. As a bit of a deep house man myself the stand out tracks are 'Mine to Give' and 'Can't Come Down', featuring Robert Owens vocals. Both have the Classic Chicago production feel, but there's a real 21st century edge to it, they both feature tough beats, heavy, heavy bass and emotion-soaked vocals: what more could you ask for. Straight out of the top drawer. These are the kind of tunes that should be played out on the big club sound systems, but I doubt will be, let's hope someone is brave enough to do it, because they will blow people away. Blinding from start to finish and even the artwork is ... class.
