Brilliant CD from the boys from Aberdeen 5 Jun 2002
By filterite - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Time has been cruel to The Shamen in Britain . Cruelly mocked for their number 1 single Ebeneezer Goode they've never quite recovered their status as one of Britain's best dance rock fusionists .

This was made before any " Eeezer goode " anthems had graced the nation . And what a great album it is too ! We start off with the groovy You Me And Everything ( Else ). We are lead into a track were we here pilots giving orders and reporting their progress in a war torn area set behind the synths . Next song is Negation State which is a furious Will Sinnot rap over the state of politics and how they will blanket everything that's going on in day to day life . True the Scottish accent may not be everyone's cup of tea but I think it sounds good

Next up is a remix of Raptyouare cunningly title Reraptyouare . We are lead into another remix - this time of Strange Days Dream which is good as it adds to the original . Phorward is a nice little track . It sounds slightly sinister but it's worth it

The S&N sessions are next on the list and you are given a rework of Happy Days with Colin Angus on vocals . Then we are given Knature Of A Girl which is equally great . In fact that track shows you how much The Shamen went through a total transmutation . It's hard to believe that from Drop we had these Echo & The Bunnymen/Syd Barrett influenced psychedelic rockers to these techno hybrids making strange new music .

We then are given Darkness In Zion and this is a very harsh and unsettling track which jars the nerves of most listeners . A strange end to an album

So why four stars ? Well it feels a little too short for my liking . I have the feeling they could have put more in but I won't complain - it's a great album that everybody should listen to if they are open minded about these things . It's only a pity some people will always remember them for Ebeneezer Goode - they had much more to offer

Great album, but with minor niggles! 6 July 2000
By A. Ramsay - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
I first got a hold of this mini album in the early 90s, when I got a copy of it from a cousin. I was initially a bit uncertain about some of the tracks; this soon passed! The only track on this album I have doubts about is Negation State: while I love (and own!) a Scottish accent, I don't think it's particularly well-suited to the art of rap! The instrumentation to that track is, however, outstanding. My favourite tracks on the album are, by and large, the remixes of tunes that appeared on the preceding albums: Raptyouare being updated to Reraptyouare and Strange Days Dream being updated to SDD 89. Both are massive improvements on the originals, I think, but, more importantly, represent a big step forward in the Shamen's approach to music: many more samples, much more electronic. The niggle to which I refer in the title is that, on this edition of Phorward, the track Evil Edit is missing, which includes a further update of, amongst other tunes, Raptyouare. It really was a major standout piece and its replacement with Darkness in Zion really is not justified. Overall, though, this is a great little album and a very worthwhile illustration of the evolution of dance music in the UK at the beginning of the 90s.
Hidden Tracks on reissue? 21 Jan 2003
By Greg Krueger - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
The original came out in a thin CD-Single type jewel case. It listed 8 tracks but actually had 11, and not hidden either. The best track for a Raver was track 11. Some of the deepest bass drops and pure energy I have ever heard. Correction, still listen to- Ha!
