Product Description

From the Publisher

Do you want to learn English Pronunciation quickly? Then this book is an essential guide to help you.
This book teaches the pronunciation of the international phonetic symbols used in the English Language.
The English Language is not a phonetic language so it is ESSENTIAL for both teachers and students to be able to read, write and pronounce these phonetic symbols.
This should be the FIRST lesson taught and studied in the EFL (English as a foreign language) classroom, and continued throughout the learning process.
It can be used in the classroom and/or as student self-paced study book as it has an accompanying CD and an answer section.
Aimed at giving a thorough understanding of the basics of pronunciation.
Easy language and vocabulary used throughout the book.
Wide variety of exercises.
66 listening exercises (easy to find on CD)
Helpful for all levels.
How can we teach/study without it!!!

From the Author

I have been teaching English for many years and I am now convinced that when students learn to read the phonetic symbols their pronunciation improves dramatically. There are three main types of learners - oral (listening), visual(seeing), and kineasthetic (doing). The smallest group are oral. The largest is visual. Learning the phonetic symbols visually speeds up the learning process. It is much faster and more successful than the listen and repeat method only.20Some learners of English are excellent at vocabulary and grammar but cannot be understood because of incorrect pronunciation. This is because they learned the words with incorrect pronunciation. It is very important to learn the correct pronunciation at the time of learning the word. It is very difficult to correct/relearn this later! Make it easier for yourself and learn correctly the first time. Every time you use a dictionary you will see the phonetic symbols beside the word you are learning. The written word only teaches you the spelling of the word. The phonetic symbols teach you how to pronounce the word! Save time and frustration by learning it correctly the first time. Learn the phonetic symbols and you will speak English much faster and with more accuracy. When you buy my book there is an email address where you can write to me at anytime if you need any further help. Remember your pronunciation doesn't have to be absolutely perfect because having an accent can be very attractive - the problem is when people cannot understand you. I wish you all the best with your English Pronunciation - Marianne Jordan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very useful book 21 April 2005
Even the accent is irish, it did help me a lot to improve my accent . This book give you clear examples of the english phonetics t, sh . m , d, etc . I really would have loved the editors would have included the sounds for the vowels and their combination. However compared to other books I have, this was the easiest one to use!
