4.0 out of 5 stars Great reading, but don't treat it as the gospel truth....., 3 Mar 1999
By A Customer
An extremely interesting book which attempts to document the whole videogaming scene - past and present. In my opinion, the first half of the book which details the early videogaming years makes by far the most interesting reading...it really should be taken with a pinch of salt....

5.0 out of 5 stars A thorough chronicle of our favorite industry., 20 Aug 1999
By A Customer
Phoenix has a very specific targed audience: Those interested in the business side of the home console industry. For us, Phoenix is a riviting book on the history of videogames, from Space War to Sony. I have not been able to put this book down for two days straight. The rest of the world will find Phoenix to be merely a well written and thorough history text book about a very specific part of americana. If you count yourself in the former group, then Phoenix is required reading. If you are a member of the latter, Phoenix is a good refresher course of your lifetime of gaming.

4.0 out of 5 stars Recommended reading if you're interested., 21 Jun 1999
By A Customer
I found the book throroughly researched and full of factual data. What it lacked, I felt, was the little anecdotes. Like the Mindlink falling apart at the Consumer Electronics Show on the CEO of Atari who was trying to show it off. The book is devoid of these kinds of stories...but, it's a good read. Chock full of goodies in terms of data.

3.0 out of 5 stars A good history of the industry, if that's what you want.
There are different perspectives history can be written from. In the case of videogames, basically there's the companies who make the hardware and sofware, the journalists who... Read more
