(Child's eye view)
This book caught my eye and I could hardly put it down. It's about a girl who is trying to make more pocket money, as her parents won't give her a rise. She and her friend try to make money by doing things that are actually not that sensible, as they really should have known more about the people that they were working for. In both cases, their bosses turn out to be dishonest.
In the end, Phoebe and a four-year-old get captured by a gang of robbers who are desperate to get their hands on something, but what that something is, Phoebe doesn't know! She uses her wits to get out of it, and learns from the experience: it teaches you about how money makes people weird, and not to judge a sweet by its wrapper
She also learns more about God, too, first in thinking of others by joining in her church's fast to raise money for wells in Africa, and that she is able to trust God more than she has been when she's scared.
My favourite part is when Phoebe has to make a choice with the reward she gets at the end: does she spend it all on herself, or on making wells in Africa? All in all, a wonderful book with good morals in a concealed form.
