This book should be recommended reading for anyone with a vague, or not so vague, interest in the philosophy of science. It combines the virtues of a good introductory textbook (thanks to the detailed introductions for every major part of the anthology) with the usefulness of a good anthology. The authors have succeeded in presenting a representative cross-section from all main discourses and debates in the field; some omissions (as are inevitable in such a project) are noticeable to the expert's eye (and possibly due to certain publishers' not having agreed to have their material reprinted), but these do not affect the overall usefulness. Certainly a good investment for any undergraduate or beginning graduate student in philosophy (or history) of science!

Curd & Cover's collection is an accesible and up-to-date introduction to philosophy of science. If your faith for science is a something like religious you should read this book. I am not saying that it undervalues science but put it in the right place. Do you think all observations and researches done by scientists objective and immune to their beliefs. What about if you learn that Kepler was an astrologist himself? Why do you think you believe in existence of atoms? Authority of science? How is this authority justified? Do you believe all ravens are black? What if one day you discovered a white raven? The book is a collection of articles about contemporary as well as classic issues in philosophy of science. It is organised in sections introducing different but relevant topics. Every section starts with an introduction and ends with a commentary and a summary. A self-contained, comprehensive introduction course pack to the subject.
