Product Description

Product Description

An eloquent and sometimes even erotic book, the Philosophical Enquiry was long dismissed as a piece of mere juvenilia. However, Burke's analysis of the relationship between emotion, beauty, and art form is now recognized as not only an important and influential work of aesthetic theory, but also one of the first major works in European literature on the Sublime, a subject that has fascinated thinkers from Kant and Coleridge to the philosophers and critics of today. This is the only available edition of the work.

Interesting idea 15 Aug 2009
Format:Paperback
This book puts forward the interesting proposition that it is obscurity and suggestiveness, rather than clarity, which captures the imagination. This argument could be applied to philosophy as well as beauty.

The book quality's pretty poor so you wouldn't, say, give it as a gift) but it's hard to find this book so recommended if you're particularly keen to get your hands on it.

This is an amazing Book. I love Burke, his theories are so profound and also so relevant even to us today. Click here even to see how they are still used.
