I have had this unit for 3 years now and my purpose for writing this review is to inform others of my experience to date.
On opening and setting up the unit everything seemed to be satisfactory - computer associated with unit and music transfer progressed nicely. Setting up the wireless was another issue.
We have adequate wireless coverage in our house, and you can get a good signal in every room. Our unit gets only occasional use when entertaining and on almost every occasion I need to go through a process to try and firstly get the unit to associate with the wireless network then secondly to get the unit to associate with the satellite station. All in I always leave an hour or so to make sure I can get this done.
The next issue is the software. Well its adequate for its use but that is it. If you try and organise the music it seems to forget how you have defined things and some albums are still jumbled together. In addition, despite going through the rigors of getting the base and satellite, the software can't seem to find the base station despite lengthy and repeated attempts to scan the network. In fact having had the unit for 3 years now, I think I have been uable to get the software to associate for the last year. I have now removed it from my laptop.
Following this, and having been able to transfer all of my available music library before I encountered these problems I resorted to using CD's to transfer the music. This worked well, until the unit stopped reading the CD's despite them being in the drive. The unit would state "No CD" with a CD stuck inside. I eventually had to dismantle the machine to get the disc out, and the problem is not yet solved. Oh, and the CD player is in fact a Philips DVD module.
Internet radio I thought is a fantastic idea - radio stations from all over the world!! Hmmmm, well you can cycle through the menu based system on the unit (if it can get on to the internet) which is really slow. Or why not use the "Streamium" site for the product to set up a favourites list - great idea! If it was ever available - I can't remember the last time I found it online.
The sound quality is adequate, but lets face it, I didn't buy this unit for the clarity at the high frequencies or the depth at the bottom end - I bought it to give me music across my wireless network, with seamless broadcasting to our other rooms when we have guests and sadly it has failed to meet its expectations by a big margin.
Surprised that a concept such as this is so poorly executed, but all in - you cannot beat having some wires!!!
