1.0 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware!!!, 31 Mar 2009

Richard Pegler (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Philips VOIP321 VoIP And Skype Compatible Digital Cordless Telephone (Electronics)
Bought three of these six months ago. At end of February I upgraded my Skype to V4 (the current version). I immediately got a message to say that my Skype phone was no longer compatible with the version of Skype that I was running, and a link was provided to the Philips support site. No mention of any software upgrade for the phone to make it compatible with V4 of Skpe - so I contacted Philips. They said then that they had no plans to produce compatible software. I have just tried again, four weeks down the line, and Philips have now categorically stated that there will be no upgrade available to make these phones compatible with the current version of Skype. They suggested that I might like to buy their new phones, which are under development, as they will be compatible when they come out. What a good idea !! - I think not!! Never again will I buy Philips.

However, Amazon have kindly said that they will refund the money for these phones - I just have to find a suitable replacement with a cordless dual facility, but the Netgear phones have had mixed revues.

4.0 out of 5 stars A simple idea - a great phone: Talk for free in comfort!, 8 Dec 2006
This review is from: Philips VOIP321 VoIP And Skype Compatible Digital Cordless Telephone (Electronics)
A simple idea - a great phone! Talk for free in comfort!

I always liked Skype but I didn't really fancy using the headset and standing in front of the computer while making a phone call - my previous DECT phones had spoiled me :). Ideally I would be able to use Skype with a wireless phone, or better, to use my wireless phone with Skype instead of the BT line...

This Skype phone is a very simple, but great idea that works perfectly! I use it with the latest version of Skype and it really does more that I would had asked. Its also one the sexiest looking phones I've seen around.

Only negative thing I see is the non-colour screen, but I can live with that. :)

Overall, I could say that I am very happy with this phone and I would recommend it to anybody who has broadband and friends!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not so useful Skype phone, 24 Nov 2009
This review is from: Philips VOIP321 VoIP And Skype Compatible Digital Cordless Telephone (Electronics)
Skype is useful if the technology enables you to use it. As written by another review, the Philips VOIP321 is a phone that is antiquated but pretends not to be. So far in 2 weeks...it will not register to Skype upgrades, so is not PC compatible (IE you cannot make a Skype call originated on your PC - you have to make all calls on the phone). I downgraded my Skype to the version suggested by another reviewer (pre v4.1) but it made no difference. So for every call I had to scroll through the address book. I cannot just highlight a number and call. It also means that every number has to be pre entered in the address book. Not a major problem, but yet another annoyance. Most recently, I was away for 3 days, and returned to the phone to find it will only display the addressbook in numbers not names. So to dial abroad, I have to scroll large numbers, which the display does not show the full number...The phone has to go! Now to try and get a refund....
