Manufacturer's Description

imagen Pro for sharper and vibrant colours

The unique Philips imagen enhancement technology automatically analyses your photos to correct colour and adjust for optimal contrast. imagen Pro is a more advanced image enhancement which includes the 3 essential elements from imagen to have more colour accuracy, colour depth and smart contrast. On top of these, imagen Pro offers enhanced skin colour, sharper images and flicker-free photo viewing which is very important for still pictures.

4:3 aspect ratio for optimal distortion-free display

Philips digital PhotoFrame ensures your photo is displayed in 4:3 ratio for the best viewing experience.

Add new glow to old memories with RadiantColor

RadiantColor is an exclusive Philips technology for displaying smaller photos in the optimal 4:3 ratio by extending the colour on the edges of a less-than-full-screen photo to the sides of the screen, eliminating black bars and aspect ratio distortion. Simple intuitive operation and great convenience.

This battery charging dock doubles as a stand as well as a battery charging station. Once fully charged, the frame's built-in battery is good for 2 hours of cordless sharing of photos.

Touch-sensitive controls on the PhotoFrame border

By Paul S. Ell HALL OF FAME TOP 10 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
*** Update on my review after six months of daily use (using the timer function). I've noticed that the brightness of the frame has reduced. It was the brightest LCD frame I had but an older Sony frame is now brighter. This may be an issue just with my frame and the problem, whilst marginally reducing the worth of the frame, is not serious enough to reflect badly on a product with so many other benefits***

This is an innovative LCD picture frame which was delivered remarkably promptly using the Amazon Prime service - one day delivery real does mean just that even to Northern Ireland.

On the plus side the frame has several advanced features. Image quality is good; it will show video footage as well as photographs; it will play a series of background music tracks (I'm not sure this is a REAL plus but is useful possibly for video with sound); it has a 1Gb inbuilt memory; it will read a wide variety of memory cards as well as the standard USB connection; it auto orientates depending on whether the frame is held in portrait or landscape mode (and will even orientate correctly if you turn the frame completely upside down); it has various options for resizing or using colour interpretation to fill in any black borders because a picture is not the correct size (although 4x3 remains the standard size for most photos).

I guess the two biggest selling points are that the frame has an inbuilt battery so you can detach it from its stand and carry it around - to show relatives etc. The rechargeable battery lasts for two hours so this is not, what might be the holy grail in LCD screens of actually being able to use them for fairly long periods where NO power source is available (like a mantelpiece where an old-style picture frame might sit or on a wall). The second big hit, although a little more common, is the ability to upload photos and video via bluetooth from, for example, a mobile phone. So no cables required.

There are a few gimmicks. You can get the frame to remind you of an important event and display multiple photographs in various ways on the same screen.

So this is a powerful LCD screen but there are some niggles. First, the packaged software to be loaded on a PC does not work with Macs. This is not actually explicitly referred to in the documentation which does include a graphic which looks very like an iMac. That said, the Mac treats the frame as a disk drive so moving photos is easy. Second, the frame does not come with a remote control. Initially I was unable to randomise the image selection and the time each picture was displayed and noted this as a problem. Having read another review - thanks Navigator- I've managed to track these settings down. As a result I'm revising my rating from 4 to 5 stars.

Overall a very very impressive product.

Philips Frame 30 Nov 2009
Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
The Philips 8" frame is possobly one of the best quality frames i have ever seen. I have had a few frames over the years for family and friends and they lack the quality that the Philips frame has.

Even down to the detail of having a small dock for the frame to sit in as a minimalist design. The dock i think is a fantastic idea. Not only can you charge your photo frame in this dock but it means that you can share your photos with your family and friends by passing round the actual frame. With ithaving a 8" screen this give s great viewing area for anyone to look at your photos.

Your photos will be automatically rotated depending on how you hold the frame so that you can always see the correct orientation of your photo. You can also have small videos playing on the frame which is ideal to show your holiday fun!

When i first plugged in the frame i wondered where they on button was, and it is nicely hidden on the rear side of the frame which is a great idea as it makes the frame look really good.

The buttons for the frame are located on the actual frame itself and are touch sensetive. Upon touching the frame these light up to show where they are. These are very simple buttons and located easily for you to touch. These are quite fiddly sometimes and you have to press them hard to get them working. This is where a remote control could have come in handy. Paying a lot of money from this frame and it misses something so simple.

On the right hand side of the frame there is a little opening where a plastic cover can be removed so that you can add in your memory card and also connect it to your computer. I was quite dissapointed that this door didnt seem to fit 100% on my frame but maybe this was a slight design flaw.

There is also a bluetooth connection for you to transfer your photos from your mobile phone (this does not work with iphone) onto the very high capacity 1gb in built memory. This is a great addition to the frame as normally they come with a few mb and you can only hold a handful of photos on the frame.

All in all i think that this frame is feature rich and looks the business. The bluetooth addition and the fact that it can also be handed around the room to your family add a great addition to the product and give it some real selling points. The reason why this product does not get a 5 out of 5 in my eyes is because of the remote control.

Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
Having previously purchased a number of digital photo frames as gifts when they first hit the market a few years back I realised the importance of avoiding the cheap entry level no name brands. This latest offering from Philips offers some really great features that are well summed up in the product specs and the other reviews. I've listed below what I would consider to be the pros and cons

Pros
-Very sleek and stylish finish that will complement and provide a focal point in most homes
-The larger than average built in 1 GB memory
-This frame is widely compatible with many memory formats, these memory input ports are discretely concealed in a compartment on the back of the frame
-Bluetooth indulges the modern data sharing family offering a quick and straight forward way to upload photos from a mobile phone
-An internal battery is a must in my opinion. As another review states when sharing photos with family members you don't all stand around it, it's great to pass around and share. Better still turn up at your nans and just turn it on without worrying about plugging it in or having to carry around a power supply.
-This is the first frame I've seen that mounts onto a stand and take the power through the stand, this is very discrete. It also makes the frame nice to handle and share without a stand attached to the back of the frame.
-Built in speakers that support video and allows MP3 playback as a backing track to your photo albums

Cons
-With all the inbuilt features I feel this frame would benefit from a remote. Picking it up and tabbing up and down the touch controls on the face of the screen is easy but to change the photo album without getting up would be a benefit which a number of other frames do offer.

There are a lot of aesthetic and functional features that this frame offers which make it worthy of the 5 star rating I have given. I do feel that this product would sell much better off the page with more product views that would allow prospective customers to see the quality and features of the product they are about to buy !
