Philips O'Neill SHO9560/28 The Stretch Over-Ear Headphones (Black Bordeaux)
Crisp, Clear Sound and Cool Design

The Stretch delivers powerful sound performance from 40-millimeter drivers to produce crisp highs, solid mids, and deep, chest-thumping bass without distortion. Philips O'Neill SHO9560/28 The Stretch Over-Ear Headphones (Black Bordeaux)
Tangle-Free, Stress-Relief Cable and Reinforced Connectors

These headphones are tough enough to go wherever you do--take them on the mountain, the bike, the skateboard, the plane, the subway, or hook them up to your computer. Unlike headphones with plastic cables, The Stretch is constructed with a flexible, tangle-free fabric cable that moves with you, keeping you totally immersed in the music. Strong aluminium connectors reinforce the audio jack, and cable stress relief means that if the cable gets caught, it will disconnect without pulling on your headphones or listening device--a great feature for active users.

The Most Durable Material for the Toughest Headphones

Featured on The Stretch, TR55LX is a durable, temperature-resistant material that's perfect for the lifestyle of any action-sports enthusiast. If you're in a situation where you're freezing, melting, or breaking, don't worry about your headphones, because chances are they're just fine.

TR55LX is an impact-resistant, stress-crack resistant material that retains its flexibility and strength--even at extreme temperatures. This incredibly tough material has a surface hardness that is six times the hardness of polycarbonate, the material most commonly used in heavy-duty headphones. Unlike polycarbonate, which can become brittle at subzero temperatures, TR55LX always remains flexible, whether it's -10 degrees Fahrenheit or 100 degrees Fahrenheit. And unlike other headphone materials that decrease in strength after prolonged storage in high temperatures, TR55LX can handle the hottest place on the planet for months on end without being affected.

Soft Ear Cushions and Flexible Headband for Optimal Fit

Unlike too-tight headphones that can cause headaches, The Stretch features two headbands for maximum comfort. A translucent, super-flexible outer headband provides durability, while the auto-fit cushioned inner headband--made from comfy neoprene padding--stretches to fit your head. And designed after extensive research, the deluxe, super-soft, noise-isolating ear cushions provide exceptional padding for hours of comfort, and they block out external noise, so you can focus on the music.

Philips are well-known for being pioneers and innovators for the last 50 or so years in the fields of audio and visual entertainment. However, other manufacturers have then "run with the baton" so to speak, and gone on to vastly improve technologies that Philips have perhaps spent an age getting to the market.

It's with this in mind, that i was approaching these headphones with mild scepticism. But i need'nt have worried about anything.

Once you get past the slightly lush and quality infused presentation box, you find a VERY SMALL lead attaching itself to the main headphones, which themselves sit VERY COMFORTABLY on the ears and head, due to the soft, headband which rests below the main, adjustable plastic band. Having spent so many years in studio enviroments , i knew why they designed a small interfacable socket to join onto the main skipping-rope like feel of wire; for ease of replacement. The most vunerable parts are usually there, and also the end that joins onto the plug.

I tested them using my home audio system which runs via an onkyo amp and is based around a set of KEF 5.1 speakers, in the studio via analog and digital synths and sound sources, on an mp3 player whilst walking and sitting still. Of course, for me, the other TRUE ACID TEST here, considering the USP in the blurb, was on a 3 mile run/ workout. I also compared them with my studio headphones - sennheiser hd25 - and a pair of general purpose in the ear buds which i also use- sennheiser cx300 II. Here's a summary :-

Results through the amp - full, rich bass, lots of clarity, and the design prevents needless sound leakage.

The sound quality for these headphones is amazing. I am not a professional sound engineer but like crisp sound with the full range of frequencies. These definitely do the job nicely. They are extremely comfortable with a snug fit. Another great thing about these is that they are very stylish. I love the colour and style of these headphones. These could be great for travelling too as they are very flexible and could twisted to fit in your hand luggage. The snug fit and noise reduction could easy get rid of aircraft or train noise. All in all a great set of headphones.

I bought these headphones in the hope that they would be more rugged and last longer than others I've owned. I'm not a particularly heavy user, nor am I rough with them, but headphones never seem to last very long with me. While the actual headphones are solid, and sound great, I've now gone through 2 extension cables in less than 5 months of light use. Philips replaced the first cable straight away, and I was very happy with their customer service, but the second extension failed even more quickly than the first.

tldr; Great sound, well built, bad extension cable

I was extremely impressed with the Philips Stretch Headband Headphones. They are a comfortable weight and the stretch centre band allows the headphones to sit comfortably on the head giving a perfect fit. The padded muffs are far more comfortable to wear over long periods, unlike the WESC headphones which tend to make the ears ache after a while, and the sound quality is quite exceptional.
The headphones come with a connecting extension lead which is completely tangle-free and matches the colour of the central stretch band, which I thought was a nice touch. Also, the headphones come in a durable compressed cardboard box with a moulded plastic insert and the headphones can be easily packed away when not in use and the box in no way looks out of place on a shelf or beside the computer.
I have been impressed with a number of items released by Philips just recently and will be keen to see what other new innovations this company will be coming up with.
A highly recommended product where I am concerned.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
Wow Philips really have made a magnificent effort in the design of these headphones. They have a premium look and feel about them, and they have been finished in a lovely dark red on black.

After you've admired the design of these you'll be even more wowed by the sound quality. These feel incredibly comfortable to wear, those pads just lightly touching you yet preventing them from slipping. The sound qualtiy really is top notch too. Shopping around you will have likely found more expensive models but I can easily say that these have produced some of the best sounds I've heard from a set of headphones. I ran through a selection of music as well as a selection of films, and the clarity from them is amazing.

One other things that sets these apart in my opinion, is there ability to supress sound leakage. There is no form of electronic sound deadening, just that offered by the pads around your ears. I was able to listen to music at maximum volume whilst sitting next to my parner, and she couldn't hear a whisper from them. Likewise, listening at a more acceptable level, I was unable to hear any background noise. Sure, these might not stop very large sounds that your electronic ones would but for everyday use these can't be faulted.

As an all round product these are fantastic, and would be my recommendation without hesitation.
