Quite simply, these are just the job: cheaper than those other ones beginning with B, but just as effective at cutting out aircraft noise so you can actually enjoy the movie or listen to music in flight. Well worth the money.

I have recently bought a set of Phillips SHN9500 noise cancelling headphones and I am very impressed. The headphones are comfortable to wear for several hours when I am using my sit-on lawnmower. This is a big noisy diesel with a wide deck yet the noise cancelling is impressive, it doesn't cut out all the noise but enough for me to manage to listen to Wimbledon or to hear the Lions getting beaten. Good buy.

I needed theses as I travel on planes a lot, I found theses headphone to be very comfortable for long periods of time but after 8 hours of constant use my ears hurt a bit but can only be expected, the noise cancelling is very good it cuts the sound of the engines out quite a bit not 100% but a descent amount, I have heard of better ones that cancel more sound but theses are fine for me

Excellent headphones, very good quality. There is just one thing about the noise cancelling and that is that they don't cut down on noise enough for me as I suffer with noise sensitivity, they do tone down the intensity of noise though. Things like noisy cars with loud engines and thumping music going past the house, my noisy budgie, and shouting brats noise is still getting through. When music plays it helps a little more in cutting out a bit more noise. The stereo sound is top quality though and I did need a new pair of headphones anyway and I am very pleased with them, they arrived the next day after ordering which was also excellent service from amazon. Thankyou amazon. If anyone has noise sensitivity I would say that these won't be sufficient enough at cutting down on noise. The top priced ones were just too expensive for me at the moment which is why I opted for these philips ones. I would just like to say in closing that if society wasn't so selfish with noise infliction on other people that there wouldn't be a need for noise cancelling headphones for people like myself!

You get good value for money buying these, no doubt. They a very cheap and they do remove fan noise and similar(I assume they remove plane engine noise as this would be similar to a loud fan noise). But even when listening to music, I can here voices and doors around me, also quite far away. I like to listen to soft music on quite low volume, so it could be a factor. But still this is a big downside for me.

I should say I have asked to return this product as it broke after less than a day of use. I had already before this thought of returning it, but had almost decided to keep it due to the "value for money" factor. I would have kept these if I could have received a replacement pair without to much hazzle. But as it turned ouit, it was easier to get a refund instead.

The Philips support could be more helpful than they were. They do not offer warranty repairs themselves. You have to contact the reseller for this. As my headphones broke in less than a day, this was the only reason I decided to get a refund. I have no issues with headphones breaking, as long as the manufacturer offer service themselves. My experience(not from Amazon though - no nothing bad against them) from buying in a store or online and arrange for service with the reseller, is that it takes longer to get a repaired unit or replacement.

I recommend these due to the price alone. They do the job fairly well, not as good as I wanted, but for the price, I suspect they do a very good job.

For me, this was unfortunately the last Philips product I bought, as I honestly did think they offered service themselves. What is the point in having a customer service if you cannot offer service? But if you don't mind the hazzle if they break, these a probably the way to go.
