AVENT teats allow air into the bottle, preventing any vacuum build-up
AVENT baby bottles come in a range of sizes.
No 1 recommended

Reduce fussing and colic with the Philips AVENT Classic Feeding Bottle

The Philips AVENT Classic Feeding Bottle is designed to work with your baby's natural feeding rhythm. The teat helps your baby to control milk as she would do at the breast, making it easy to feed with a bottle only, or combine bottle and breastfeeding. Philips AVENT bottles are clinically proven to reduce painful colic and discomfort after feeding.

Newborn Starter Set

The Philips AVENT Classic Newborn Starter set is everything you need to start bottlefeeding a newborn, whether feeding exclusively with bottle or combining breast and bottle. The set includes 2 x 125-ml bottles with newborn-flow teats, 2 x 260ml bottles with slow-flow teats, plus a bottle & teat brush, and a newborn soother.

When baby grows, you can continue to use the same bottles: simply change the teats to medium, fast or variable flow.

Significantly reduces fussing

Unsettled and irritable behaviour, known as fussing, is by far the most commonly known crying behaviour in babies, but clinical studies show that the Philips AVENT Classic bottle significantly reduces fussing and colic. A randomised clinical trial was carried out to see whether infant feeding bottle design affects infant behaviour. The Philips AVENT bottle was shown to significantly reduce fussing by approximately 28 minutes a day as compared to the comparator bottle. This was especially true during night-time.

Fussing: A clinical study showed that at two weeks of age, babies showed less fussing than babies fed with another leading bottle.

Colic: A clinical study showed that at two weeks of age babies fed with an Philips AVENT bottle showed a trend to less colic than babies fed with a conventional bottle.

Anti-colic system

Feeding bottles, whether they are angled or straight, need air inside the bottle to replace the milk your baby takes. When your baby drinks, a vacuum is formed in the bottle causing the teat to collapse, restricting milk flow. When unable to receive milk, a frustrated baby's natural reaction is to suck more vigorously, which in turn increases the amount of air swallowed. Most bottles need air to flow in through the hole in the tip of the teat to remove the vacuum, interrupting the flow and rhythm of sucking.

The Philips AVENT range is flexible and interchangeable to suit baby's needs

As your baby feeds, the unique skirt on the AVENT teat flexes to allow air into the bottle, preventing any vacuum build-up. This allows your baby to suckle almost as if at the breast. Listen for the gentle whistling sound and watch the air bubbles burst on the surface of the milk. That's your guarantee that the air is being released into the bottle--not into your baby's tummy.

The two-piece anti-colic system on the Philips AVENT Feeding Bottle contains a ring that must be fitted between the teat and the bottle for extra performance.

BPA-free and interchangeable with other AVENT products

Philips AVENT feeding bottles are 100% Bisphenol-A (BPA) free.

Philips AVENT products have also been designed to be compatible with one another and are easily interchangeable, aiding the transition from newborn to toddler. Bottles and teats can be screwed on to or used with breast pumps, breast milk storage containers, magic cups, training cups and drinking spouts. AVENT bottles are suitable for sterilising in Philips AVENT sterilisers too, and can be heated in the Philips AVENT Digital Bottle Warmer.

Superior quality

All Philips AVENT products are superior quality and designed with you and your baby's needs in mind. Through extensive research and clinical trials, Philips AVENT products work together effectively to promote baby's wellbeing and give you the flexibility to care for a growing baby.

Mimics the flow of a breastfeeding mother
Naturally shaped teats mimic the flow of a breastfeeding mother
Teats on the Philips AVENT bottle can be replaced as baby grows
Teats on the Philips AVENT bottle can be replaced as baby grows, and are easily identified on the teat.

Easy to combine breast and bottle

The naturally shaped teat allows baby to control milk flow as when breastfeeding, making it easy to combine breast and bottle.

Choosing the right teat for your baby

Teats on Philips AVENT bottles are interchangeable, and available in newborn, slow, medium, fast and variable flow rates. Once baby moves up to the next teat stage, the old teat can simply be replaced with the new.

Remember that age indications are approximate, as babies develop at different rates. You will know when your baby is ready to move onto a faster flow rate because he or she will try to suck harder to get the milk more quickly. Baby may also show signs of tiredness or frustration during feeding.

Philips AVENT Tips for Bottle Feeding

  • Clean and sterilise all feeding parts before each use
  • Do not use abrasive cleaning agents or anti-bacterial cleaners with bottles and teats
  • Wash your hands thoroughly and ensure surfaces are clean before handling sterilized components
  • For inspection of the teat, pull it in each direction
  • Place the teat in boiling water for 5 minutes before first use to ensure hygiene
  • Throw away bottle and teats at the first sight of damage, weakness or scratching
  • Replace teats and spouts after 3 months use
  • Do not warm milk in a microwave as this may cause uneven heating and could scald your baby
  • Always check the milk temperature before feeding
  • Make sure that the bottles are not over-tightened
  • Do not allow your baby to play with small parts or run/walk while feeding

Based on December 2010 TNS online satisfaction survey conducted among more than 10 000 female users of childcare brands and products in the USA, the UK, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Russia and China.

    2.0 out of 5 stars Leaky - manufacturing issue? 21 Dec 2011
I bought this set after using Avent bottles for my first baby several years ago. Since then Avent have changed the design of the bottles to incorporate an additional ring to aid airflow.

The new system worked really well with the 2 small bottles that came with this set. However the problems started when we needed to move up to the larger bottles. We soon found that the bottles leaked when being turned back upright after feeding which became very messy and often both the baby and person feeding him were covered in milk.

We ended up experimenting and compared the bottles with 2 other large bottles that we had bought and the smaller ones. We soon discovered that the new rings did not sit tightly on the large bottles in this kit and that the diameter of the tops of the bottles was slightly wider than all the other bottles so that the ring does not sit snugly inside as it is supposed to. This means that whatever you do, you will have a leaky bottle.

I am very disappointed with this situation and now need to buy 2 new bottles which do not have this manufacturing fault. Beware!

5.0 out of 5 stars Avent vs Tommee Tippee 14 Nov 2011
    By Dizzy
I have two children, one 6 year old and one 11 week old. With my first born i used Avent from the start, and was always happy with the brand, no problems whatsoever, such a good feeder and very content. With my new baby things were different, he seemed to not feed as well even though he was a bit greedy, and couldnt burp as well. When i was pregnant i had brought a load of Tommee Tippee stuff, i dont really know why -just because it was in EVERY single store everywhere i looked and i thought i'd try it, more out of convenience and curiosity- and hey it must be good if its in every shop, right? Anyway i ended up spending alot of money on all the tommee tippee bits and bobs as its nice to match, and wow did i regret that! When the baby was 2 weeks old we had a short hospital stay, (2 days), due to conjunctivitis. Whilst there we used the hospital bottles and teats to feed. The change in babys feeding and sleeping was immediate, fed better, burped better, slept better, brought up less milk after feeds. The only thing that i could think of that had changed was either the surroundings or his bottle (he wasnt in any discomfort elsewhere despite the eye, he couldnt feel that) ...so I had to put things down to Tommee Tippee as i couldnt say it was my house he didnt like lol. So when we got home the first thing we did was to go out and buy Avent, the brand we knew and trusted from our first born, tried that, job done perfect feeding perfect baby. So all the tommee tippee gear went in the bin and we've never looked back, the only regret is spending so much on tomme tippee in the first place. Avent is the complete opposite, very sturdy equipment, extremely strong bottles and teats, trustworthy, does prevent colic, baby obviously prefers it, even the bottles are a nicer shape to hold.... complete opposite to tommee tippee in my opinion in every way. I would definately tell any parent that Avent is the one, stick with the old famous brand, its old and famous for a reason. Even the Avent electric steriliser is better as it gets less limescale and is quicker!!

    5.0 out of 5 stars I bought two 16 Jan 2012
I bought two of these basic sets as my daughter had been given a tiny Advent bottle free. That meant we had 6 small bottles and 6 larger ones plus the tiny one.

The basic sets are great as YOU GET A GOOD BOTTLE BRUSH TOO in each set.

At first we only used the small bottles which is why I bought 2 basic sets but our greedy little man demanded more.

He is now 10 weeks and has had no colic yet. He does not seem to get much wind so I can only believe the bottles work as advertised.

We recently started using the larger bottles with none of the leakage problems mentioned by another reviewer. Baby is on Milk for Extra hungry babies which is a little thicker so sometimes the teats become blocked so we always have more teats available in the Milton solution if necessary.

We have handed over the six smaller bottles to another new mother, which meant working with just the six large bottles. I bought some extra bottles of the larger size which means we now have plenty if we mislay one.

I had bought a packet of 6 white (disc) seals to use with the bottles but I wish they sold extras of the inner seals - we have lost 2 somehow.

If you are considering using these buy now while they are at this reduced price.

Edit - baby almost 1 now. We have started weaning him gradually on to ordinary milk and the blue bottles I bought as extras are great as we can put his SMA in the blue bottles and the ordinary milk in the colourless bottles.
