What is OptimalTEMP technology?

Optimal moisture and a heat of 130 degrees is required to remove all creases and iron effectively. PerfectCare, with its OptimalTEMP technology, offers the combination of high steam pressure with one optimal temperature that is safe for use on all ironable fabrics.

OptimalTEMP has been made possible thanks to the cyclonic steam chamber and the control processor. The cyclonic steam chamber ensures that, at a gentle temperature, consistently high steam can be delivered at the push of a button, where other steam generators at the same temperature would leak or deliver little to no steam. The control processor keeps the soleplate at a consistent temperature at all times, which makes it safe to use on all ironable fabrics, never being too hot or too cold.

Earlier irons used a hot soleplate alone as a means of removing creases and pressing garments. Later, the addition of a steam feature allowed for ironing with greater ease and speed, but required different temperature settings for different fabrics. Different temperature settings also interfered with the iron's ability to deliver steam. The higher the temperature, the more steam was possible, but the lower the temperature, the poorer the steam output.

Because of this, all irons and steam generators work with a soleplate of up to 260 degrees to generate enough steam. Furthermore, the soleplate serves only to press fabric, not to remove creases, steam is most efficient for this job.

Features

Philips
OptimalTEMP Technology

1) Soleplate temperature is maintained at all times, so you can't burn your fabrics.
2) High temperature and high pressure steam reaches deep into the fabric layers to loosen and smooth out deep creases in thick materials such as linen and pure cotton.

Philips
Approved by independent experts

This technology has been tested and approved by independent textile experts on the most delicate fabrics like silk, cashmere, wool and polyester.

Philips
No more scorched clothes

This iron promises to never burn your garments again, safely rest this iron flat down on the ironing board or clothing, rather than the heel rest, to reduce any risk of repetitive strain on your wrist.

Philips
Powerful pressurised steam for 2x faster crease removal

Steam pressure is scientifically measured in bars of pressure, the higher the bar pressure the faster the steam output. The highest output in our range is 6.5 bars of steam pressure. This generator produces 5.5 bars of high pressurised steam, which helps to loosen the fabric for faster crease removal.

Philips
Vertical Steam

The iron can be used vertically and the steam is powerful enough to be used to iron out creases from curtains or hanging clothes for example suit jackets or dresses that might need a refresh.

Philips
Maximum steam in two minutes

No more waiting for your iron to heat up, PerfectCare has a quick heat-up time and is ready to use in just 2 minutes, even the powerful steam. Turn it on, prepare your ironing area and get ready to go.

Philips
Easy de-calc process and calc clean reminder

Easy De-Calc, hassle-free and effective calc removal to extend the life of your steam generator. Open the Easy De-Calc outlet on the side of the steam generator base to remove any left over water. This process takes less than a minute of easy maintenance. The reminder light indicates when to carry out the de-calc process every 10 hours of use to extend the lifetime.

Philips
1.5L detachable water tank

The 1.5 litre water tank gives over 2 ½ hours of ironing with fewer refills, perfect for larger ironing loads. This water tank is detachable so you can easily fill under the tap or empty into the sink.

Philips
Power

Power efficient at 2400 watts, this steam generator uses the optimal amount of energy for your desired task.

Philips
Cord storage

No more trailing cables, 2 cord storage compartments housed on the side of the base provide a safe place to tidy the steam hose and power cable away.

I ALREADY LOVE STEAM GENERATOR IRONS
=======================

💷 I hate ironing so much, that in 2001, I spent £200 on my first steam generator iron. Even though I was doing a fairly low paid summer job at the time, I had to look fairly presentable.

❤ I was just walking through a department store called Fenwicks one day, when I saw a Polti representative doing a demo, with a small crowd of people surrounding her. I loved that it was possible to get the most stubborn, caked in creases out in a matter of seconds.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS
================

Upon unpacking and using it for the first time, I was disappointed with how much of it is made of NOT metal. My first thoughts were that this must be cheap / mass-market Philips crap. BUT I take that back. I PREFER it this way, because it's so much lighter.

So far, I'm very pleased with the performance and steam output (see 🎥video). The iron itself is very light and I definitely prefer it to the irons I've had before.

⏳ It takes two minutes to warm up, which is very decent. (The first steam generator iron I bought had to warm up for 10 mins!)

LONG TERM CARE
==============

The real proof of the pudding will be the long term maintenance. I shall update this review. (With my Polti appliances, I had to use this stuff called Kalstop about once a month).
(There's crap in water that builds up inside the machines and pipes and stops it working).
🚰 Of course I use tap water to fill this up.
It appears that the descaling process is much easier for this but I can't comment (yet). It's a huge pain in the backside ! 😡

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
As a married man I quite often find myself ironing not just the usual t-shirts and jeans for me but also the more exotically made items that my wife has. In the past I found I could never seem to find the right heat setting and get the result I wanted.

This is a very good steam generating iron from Philips which looks great and feels well built during use. It is big in comparison to a regular iron and my ironing board just about accommodates it, though an adjacent table would be more appropriate. It can also be a faff to setup and stow away due to this bulk and also requires more space but those are minor points considering the results and people looking for this sort of iron understand that's the trade-off.

There are very clear instructions and setting it up took hardly any time at all. I also found the enclosed warranty card and leaflet reassuring of their service network should anything go faulty and this immediately left a good impression.

The iron is very easy to use and it truly is one temp for everything which is great and I just press the steam button when I encounter a stubborn crease. Although it's a bit more involved setting up I really rate this iron. It handled several difficult items with ease and I quite happily plough through a massive load of ironing with it. The Iron itself is nice and lightweight but not overly so to feel flimsy. Being steam only and using OptimalTemp means no setting of the temp as you traditionally would with a dial, one temp to rule them all which is great.

One thing to note the sides of the base unit can get a bit warm so ensure its cooled down sufficiently before handling or storing.

This is an excellent iron which I would recommend to anyone in a heartbeat.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
This is the first steam-generator iron I've owned. Being a fair bit more expensive than a conventional iron, I was unsure as to whether the price-tag would justify the performance. Suffice to say that I am now a convert. Ironing has to be one of the dullest mundane household takes, so anything that can make it easier and quicker can only be a blessing.

The unit itself has a 1.5 litre water-tank that can be easily detached and re-filled even when in operation. The iron takes 2 minutes to heat and build the necessary steam pressure, and then you're ready to go. There are no temperature settings, and the supply of steam can be either given by depressing the larger button on the underside of the handle or a constant extra-strong output by pressing the top-button. It will sit on a medium-sized ironing board fairly easily.

There is an ECO mode which is easily activated by pressing the ON button for a couple of seconds. This reduces the amount of steam generated, but to be honest seems to defeat the purpose of the iron altogether.

The iron will tell you when it's time to de-scale when the DE-CALC light starts to flash. This is an easy process and only takes a minute to carry-out, and consists of turning a knob to let the scaly water drain out (and tightening it back up again).

There are a couple of niggles, the power cable is too short - I would have liked to have had another couple of feet or so. And because the unit is heavy (even when the water tank is empty) you will end up leaving indentations from your ironing-board on your carpet.

These minor niggles aside, this is an excellent iron which has improved the quality of my ironing, and perhaps most importantly, has reduced the time spent ironing which is a big thumbs-up.
