I was very happy with this player. However, the joy did not last long and after 6 months the player stopped recognising DVDs. I suspect the "Smart Car Mount" did not secure the player well enough to stop it from bouncing and wobbling around(even on a motorway).
I contacted Philips and they advised me to contact the seller. I sent an e-mail to Amazon (you cannot simply print out a return label if you return an item after 30 days) several weeks ago- they simply ignored it. My advice- think twice before buying this player.

This is a superb player. Picture is clear - works with all formats stated. Solid build quality & looks great.
Contrary to previous report I found mounting as easy as pie - fits to my car's headrest very securely. Mounting is important as velcro straps or the mounting bags you can get for similar players can be unsafe in accidents (google search - crash test reports on in-car palyers).
My daughter (5) loves it. Not only does it keep her entertained on long journeys but makes her feel really grown up too - she can opearte it by reaching forward from her seat. Bought her some Philips kids headphones too which fit her well and have a volume limiter built in.
Position of player from her eyes is good - not too close.
Unlike some other players the screen on this turns round and folds back on itself which is ideal for car mounting.
One issue is the mounting bracket is a bit bouncy. I resolved this by rolling up a scarf and wedging it between the head rest and player - this dampened the bouncing & completly resolved the problem - sorted!
All round superb player.

The player itself is great, the screen is clear, colourful and high-res. The internal speakers are not brilliant, but are adequate for use in the car if you can't be bothered with headphones.
What does let this product down is the car mounting kit. Aside from the good reviews, I bought the PET744 because I thought that the 'Smart Car Mount' sounded like a good idea, sadly I was wrong! It consists of a two piece plastic bar that clamps onto the headrest supports using four screws; two either side of each head rest support. Unfortunately the screws provided were too short and I could only secure the clamp using the outer pair of screws, which puts them under unecessary stress. (I have a Renault Scenic, which has pretty standard headrests I think, so I see no reason for the screws to be so short)
The bigger issue with the 'Smart Car Mount' is that the bracket onto which you bolt the player positions it several inches away from the headrest. Consequently, the player bounces and wobbles around freely with nothing to restrain it, on any road more bumpy than a Motorway. To give the player its due, the bouncing around doesn't seem to be a problem as the picture never misses a beat but watching it is a thoroughly nausiating experience!! The extra space between the headrest and the player also puts the player uncessarily close to the face of a child sitting in the back seat.
In summary, this product would be going back if the player had not been anything other than great. I will just have to find another way of using it in the car.

Arrived in good time used it on our no frills flight to Egypt, this was another good buy.
