DVD, DVD+/-R, DVD+/-RW, (S)VCD, CD compatible
The Philips Portable DVD player is compatible with most DVD and CD discs available in the market. DVD, DVD+/-R, DVD+/-RW, (S)VCD and CD – all of them can play on the DVD player. DVD+/-R is a shorthand term for a DVD drive that can accept both of the common recordable DVD formats. Likewise, DVD+/-RW handles both common rewritable disc types.

MP3-CD, CD and CD-RW playback
MP3 is a revolutionary compression technology by which large digital music files can be made up to 10 times smaller without radically degrading their audio quality. A singe CD can store up to 10 hours of music.

View JPEG images from picture disc
Play JPEG photos that are saved on your disc. Relive your favourite moments with family and friends anytime you want!

DivX Certified for standard playback of DivX videos
With DivX® support, you are able to enjoy DivX® encoded videos. The DivX media format is an MPEG4-based video compression technology that enables you to save large files like movies, trailers and music videos on media like CD-R/RW, and DVD recordable discs.

Built-in stereo speakers
The stereo speakers provide quality sound and allow you to listen freely. Enjoy music anytime, anywhere, with built-in stereo speakers that allow the convenience and enjoyment of music playback simply by unplugging the headphones.

Enjoy movies in 16:9 widescreen format
Display and share your movies and digital photos with your friends and family. The 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio is standard for universal to high-definition digital television. A native 16:9 aspect ratio means video display without bars at the top and bottom of the picture and without the quality loss than comes from scaling, altering an image to fit on a different screen size. 7" swivel color LCD panel for improved viewing flexibility.

Really pleased with this portable DVD player. Very neat and fits well to back of headrest with car pouch included. Also sits well if kids need to watch it in airports or on holiday but screen protected when folded away for transport. Have found sound quality good compared to previous portable DVD.

Verified Purchase
I wanted a portable DVD player as we were going to being driving to France on holiday and wanted something to help our 3 year old get through 6 hours of driving either side of a cross-channel trip.

The box contains the DVD unit itself, car headrest pouch, a small remote control, a mains power lead, a car power lead (12 volt cigarette lighter type) and an AV adapter, instruction manual and warranty information.

First impressions are of a very sleek little unit. The piano black high-gloss finish looks very smart - for about 3 minutes, until it's covered in fingerprints! The stand-out feature is the physical size of the unit. It's very compact and measures 20cm by 16cm by 4cm and weighs less than 1kg. It's definitely portable. The right side of the unit has connections for power, AV out and headphones. There's also a rotary volume control, a power switch and on the left side the switch to open the DVD tray.

The unit opens in clamshell style to reveal a 7" screen with stereo speakers and an infra red sensor for the remote control below it. The base unit has a top-loading DVD tray, buttons for major play and setup functions and a circular-style navigation button for getting through DVD menus, etc. There's also a set of logos to helpfully remind you that you can play DVDs, CDs, MP3 CDs and DivX files and JPEGs as well. The screen can also do its party trick of swivelling 270 degrees and tilting through 180 degrees! The unit starts to play automatically when switched on. You can access a setup menu to adjust brightness, contrast, screen saver, etc.

The screen itself is surprisingly good and really does do films justice. It's also bright enough to cope with strong sunlight - perfect for in-car use.

This is the first portable DVD player we have bought, but it's great. Fits to the headrest easily and the charge lasts for ages. Easily 5 hrs + . build quality is as you would expect from a Phillips product. All in all a good buy.
