I bought this radio because I live in a basement flat by the south coast, and suffered from lousy FM reception, and DAB depended on the way that the wind was blowing. So, when I inherited a stereo system, I bought this device to run via the amp - note, it does not have its own speakers, you will need external speakers. Setup took about 20 minutes, and I now have internet radio running through my stereo.

The down side? Occasionally the signal drops (I think that this is a wifi problem, not the Streamium's fault as it happens on my other internet radio), and the remote control is not intuitive.

But, overall, if you want internet radio because you either can't get good radio reception any other way, or because you want to listen to one of the stations from around the world, this will do the job for you.

I wouldn't be without it!

I would not buy any Philips product that relies on firmware. I purchased the NP1100 about 2 years ago.
In July 2011 it stopped streaming the music service for which I purchased it, Rhapsody. Seems Rhapsody upgraded their streaming protocol and Philips has abandoned the entire Streamium line--so no more firmware updates and now this product won't work with my music service. If you contact phone or email support at Philips, the techs don't even have any information about the problem --other than the entire Streamium line is now "legacy" and unsupported.

Don't buy this product if you expect to use it with a music service indefinitely, because when they upgrade their streaming protocol, and they will eventually, the Streamium may no longer work with your service.

You can, however, still use the device to stream music from your PC or from Internet radio, so I guess it's still worth 2 stars, since it does work for that, but I am extremely annoyed that a product I purchased 2 years ago no longer works for the purpose for which I made the purchase.

I'm in the states, and I use Rhapsody for music, so this may not apply to UK customers at the moment. It may be that the UK music services work fine now with this product, but I would advise against a new purchase of a "legacy" product for which their will be no more firmware updates.

It's unfortunate, because the Streamium is otherwise a wonderful idea and I really enjoyed streaming my music service through the device and my home stereo system.

Good points:
I've found the menus easy to use, and the screen has nice big writing.

I was also pleasantly surprised by the fact that the radio can play podcasts/listen-again features, as I don't remember seeing these mentioned online before I had it.

Bad points:
You can't pause or fast-forward/rewind the podcasts!

Some stations are incompatible with the radio, meaning you have to try and use an online Philips account to import URLs for these stations - I think this would be quite complicated for some people.

I've never managed to successfully use the feature that's supposed to stream music from my laptop, but this isn't too much of an annoyance for me as the main thing I was looking for was streaming of internet radio.

I am happy with this product, but if and when I decide to get a new internet radio I will look for the ability to pause/rewind/fast-forward podcasts.
