Have used with ordinary dimmer switches and and if there is more than one bulb per circuit then they provide a stable light. The light can be a little red for a while when it switches on for the first few times but has settled to a lovely warm colour.

Used these bulbs to replace standard items and they work very well. Great reduction in power consumption and produce a good 'warm white' light albeit with a pinky tinge. Overall very pleased

These bulbs are great. You do need to think a little before fitting them....
They look great but take so little wattage (making them cheap to run) that standard dimmers cant operate them as the wattage is below the dimmers minimum operating current when dimmed. Varilight do a range of dimmers that allow for very low wattage bulbs and these can be bought in all the usual colours and styles (White, Chrome etc and with or without external srew fittings). (No, I am not employed by varilight).
When started these bulbs are a little pink for the first 20mins or so but soon get to full "whiteness". (Is that a word???)
Taking 9W instead of 40W (actually they look more like 60W bulbs to me) is a huge saving on the Electricity bill even if they capital outlay is initially expensive. All in all I am very pleasesd with them.

not so good
expecting bright clean light got soft warm redish glow. expected to read by it found it a bit poor considering all the hype.

Lasted a whole day
Bought bulb for use with a standard dimmer switch. Buzzed loudly for a day and died the next. Returned bulb. True story.
