Like many other people I have a number of halogen lights throughout my home, mostly in the kitchen and bathroom in the form of 50w GU10 bulbs. While they generally provide a good, pleasant light they're not cheap to run compared with the new LED replacements on offer and I've been waiting for the right time to switch over.

I've been testing this bulb as one of three in a bathroom. Although they are all rated to be 50w or equivalent this bulb actually seems brighter than the halogen ones, and has a much whiter light. In fact, I hadn't realised how yellow the halogen light was until I compared them side by side. I find it a little bit too white/blue for my taste but it does give a pleasant, clean light. There is another bulb in this range which I have installed alongside this one and I find that to be just as bright but with a more pleasant colour (it is a very close match to the halogen bulbs) and that is my choice from the two of them. It is the neutral white variant of MASTER LEDspotMV D 6-50W GU10 WH 25D.

5.0 out of 5 stars Does all that it promises 31 May 2013
By Paul S Ell HALL OF FAME TOP 50 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
I seem over the last few weeks to have found out more about light bulbs than perhaps I ever wanted to know! Nonetheless it's worth a bit of research when bulbs are this expensive and I've been gradually replacing suitable bulbs at home with these. The bulbs are designed to replace 50w halogen spotlights - coded GU10 - which are commonly embedded into ceilings in kitchens and bathrooms or form part of spotlight installations. They have rounded power fittings not to be confused with the needle-like connections of 35w halogen bulbs. These Philips bulbs use the latest technology - LEDs (light emitting diodes) - which are the next generation of lighting replacing florescent tube bulbs which have, in turn, replaced the original incandescent bulbs.

The bulbs form part of Philips 2013 light bulb release (yes, there are annual releases of light bulbs together with glossy brochures about them). They are available in six different flavours - there are three choices of colour warmth - 2700k very warm white, 3000k warm white and 4000k cool white. Each has two choices of beam focus, 40 degrees for more general use, say in a kitchen ceiling, and 25 degrees for a more concentrated spot-light effect. All use 6 watts (as opposed to 50 watts for a standard halogen bulb) and as far as I can tell output the same amount of light as halogen bulbs. In theory the `very warm white' 2700k bulb reflects the light colour from a standard halogen bulb. I find it a little too warm and prefer the 3000k 'warm white' for most settings. The 4000k `cool white' produce a noticeably whiter-white.

The headlines for these bulbs is that they use just 6 watts so a near 90% drop in power consumption.

5.0 out of 5 stars great quality 25 July 2013

This is a very good quality product. Unlike some other LEDs this one is very bright and clear. The finish is very pleasant and solid. Not likely to break when you try to fit it in. Very good product and such amazing saving on electricity usage.

5.0 out of 5 stars Economic Halogen Replacement 16 July 2013
By The Dunelmian VINE VOICE
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
Last year I decided to replace all the halogens in my office with LED's, but was surprised at how much they vary in light strength, quality, and area of illumination depending on manufacturer.

These Philips ones give great light - the cool white is very cold though - and cover just about a wide enough beam.

The estimated lifespan is 5 years for most of these, and when you feel the difference in heat output you will understand why.

Bear in mind that halogen bulbs can be used in mini ovens, all that heat is bound to degrade old style bulbs.

The tiny amount of heat from the LEDs means for places like offices you can have a massive energy saving.

They aren't cheap, but this new generation of higher equivalent wattage means you can replace old halogens and recoup the cost of the LEDs.

5.0 out of 5 stars ABSOLUTELY GREAT LIGHT 10 July 2013

Haven't got into LED lights before this one.

Beautifully designed and made - a real quality product from Philips.

I really like the light quality = cool light ~ cool white.

This has decided me to start the change over to LED. First to go are the kitchen down-lighters, hot and expensive to run. After them its the kitchen under cupboard lights - cool, white and cheap to run.

Philips Master GU10 6-50 Watt LED 4000 K 25D MV Spot Light, Cool White

This one LED bulb has convinced me. Some bulbs will be hard to replace with LED bulbs. but they are the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Philips Master classic 2 July 2013

Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
I've now got four of these LED bulbs installed in the kitchen and the verdict is - they look good and provide a lot of light considering the small amount of power they use. The build quality is fantastic like with all the Philips LED bulbs I've reviewed on Amazon. 50W running on only 6W - hard to believe but this little bulb packs a punch. I wouldn't settle for anything less.

5.0 out of 5 stars Philips Master Cool Light Bulbs. GU10 1 July 2013
By Alessi Lover TOP 500 REVIEWER
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
If you are after a cool white effect and wanting an energy saving bulb Philips is one to certainly consider, as so easy to fit. Do bear in mind though what your fittings look like as the front of this has a chrome finish. (Not an issue for myself as have chrome fittings but if you have a gold effect fitting might have to think again.

Now these have an estimated life of twenty five years per so much use. Can you imagine going back to a shop after twenty for years to say your bulb is not working? Nowadays the shop will probably be longer there in that time hence.

Now I just wanted to try these bulbs out in the kitchen as fed up of normal GU10 bulbs giving up the ghost and having to replace them. Handy when other half in to do it, but usually when not about and I have to try to get the old GU10 out using a sucker. With these bulbs they go in so easily and judging by the life span should not have a problem. (Fingers crossed, we do have a lot of power cuts and dips which seem to blow the bulbs quickly, so this should be an interesting test). So far all the bulbs we replaced a few weeks ago are all up and running still even after a few power dips.

Got a few various Philips energy bulbs warm white, cool white etc a mix but for various functions. Light fitting has four on each and have one on either side of the beam in the middle of the kitchen. We have them either pointing at the tv a warm light, or a brighter one for the sink area or cooking area. They all work well for each defined area I want and need them for and hopefully will last the full time.

I am so happy with them that when having the bathroom done would consider the bulbs for there as our bathroom is quite dark a needs a lot of light which these in a mix would be great for.
