2.0 out of 5 stars It does what it says, but boy, is this expensive to run!, 4 Jan 2008

(REAL NAME)
Good points are that it's a fax and an answering machine rolled into one. That's the only good point!

Bad points too numerous to relate, but suffice to say that the following drive me mad...
1. inkfilm rolls mean that the number of pages the machine will print out for each roll of inkfilm it pre-ordained, with each page of fax costing about 14 pence
2. it finds fitting an A4 incoming fax onto an A4 sheet of paper too difficult, so it puts in onto two sheets, meaning most incoming single-page faxes cost you 28 pence! Great when you get spammed by fax-spamming businesses ... sure, you can block these, but only when you've been sent a thousand faxes about how to sell your business, etc!
3. the print quality is lousy
4. if anything goes wrong, it prints out many sheets detailing the faults, each sheet costing you 14 pence!
5. it doesn't matter how much coverage of ink your incoming fax uses up, this counts as one page on the inkfilm roll regardless of whether the fax contains just one word or two hundred words.
6. you can't cheat the system, since the one I bought, a slightly older model by the looks, but still the same name, has a chip which needs replacing each time you replace the inkfilm roll, so there's no rewinding the inkfilm to try and use it sensibly ... you end up throwing a practically unused roll of inkfilm away since the machine won't work till you replace the chip, which you can only get by buying a new roll of inkfilm.

Worst fax I've ever come across. A total rip off!

1.0 out of 5 stars Overrated and Easily Disposable, 14 Jul 2008
Mine broke after 11 months of light use. The fax simply packed up. The unit is very expensive to run with costly ink film cartridges, and the print quality is poor.

The settings are limited and the instructions very poor. I replaced mine with a Brother using inkjet cartridges. This is "Philips" but is really Sagem as they took over the Philips business sector, and the flimsy nature of this device makes it suited to those who fax once a year or receive very few.

It is a toy not a real Fax/TAM like the workhorses of old, these are flimsy and uneconomic to run.
