Product Description

High fidelity, premium quality. Wherever you go.

Philips Fidelio M1 combines the very best in sound and comfort for an authentic music experience on the move. Expertly engineered for superb noise isolation in a light yet sturdy design, enjoy true high definition sound wherever you go.

Philips Audio
Deluxe breathable ear pads and memory foam for optimal fit

The materials used for the Fidelio M1 are carefully selected to ensure long-wearing comfort and enhanced sound performance. Deluxe breathable ear pads with memory foam are designed for optimal ergonomic fit. Not only does the foam mould itself perfectly to the shape of your ear, it also seals in bass sounds while keeping out ambient noise. This is designed with the outer cushion—using a balanced proportion of fabric and protein leather—to reduce ear surface pressure and heat build-up, so that the M1 feels and sounds excellent.

Acoustically sealed construction keeps sound details in

The acoustic seal is a specially designed ribbon lock that's built into the internal chamber to eliminate any unnecessary sound leakage and preserve sound details. The result is excellent bass extension.

Philips Audio
Double-layered ear shells engineered for sound precision

The M1's double-layered ear shells are engineered to reduce resonance and to dampen vibration for genuinely precise and clean sound, so you hear every superb sound detail. The solid, layered construction ensures durability and comfort, making the M1 an ideal music companion for a long time to come.

Bass Reflex System for clear, dynamic and balanced bass

The acoustic closed-back architecture features a Bass Reflex System (BRS) that comprises ear shells with 3 strategically placed vents. These regulate the air pressure within the internal chamber, providing the diaphragm with a controlled environment for optimal acoustic response. Working in conjunction with the acoustic seal capture, it isolates every natural sound detail and delivers precise and dynamic bass without compromising on sound clarity.

Philips Audio
High power neodymium drivers for true-to-original sound

Each speaker driver is carefully hand picked, tuned and tested before being paired to ensure the most balanced natural sound. The 40 mm drivers utilise high power neodymium magnets to deliver true high definition sound in a wide dynamic range, reproducing even the most minute details.

Tuned frequency response

Extensive research was done with discerning music-lovers to gain insight to their listening preferences, for example, the balance of sound characteristics that they favoured. Our acoustics engineers then tuned the Fidelio M1 to account for all the minute details that affect how listeners discern sound, such as how the ear reflects sound and resonates in response. As a result, our M1 headphones are engineered to reproduce sound that is as faithful to the original recording as possible—including current recording styles.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
I was a little concerned when I saw the size of these headphones, being used now to in-ear style buds. I was concerned about their weight and bulk but soon realised that they are not that big or heavy but just appear huge in comparison to in-ear! They are a nice light weight and extremely comfortable to wear. Whilst not as portable as in-ear buds, that shouldn't be expected and they do come with a bag to store them in when they're not in use. The ear pads also fold flat so the headphones can be worn around the neck and the pads stay flat against your chest.
The main feature to be concerned about when dealing with headphones is, of course, the sound quality. Yes they need to comfortable but they must sound good. Philips have certainly made a pair of headphones that sound good ... you could even say they sound great! Quality is clear and the in-line control and microphone are additional bonuses. However, beware if you are going to use these on anything but an i-device, Blackberry or Android smartphone as the extension cable with the additional controls are incompatible with anything else. This is due to the TRRS format on the extra connector for the mic which does not work with a standard TRS socket. This isn't mentioned in the manual so don't think you've got a dud pair if you're checking them on a PC or a standard MP3 player or HiFi. This can be solved easily by using a different cable to extend the length of the cable or by using an adaptor.
Whilst not fancy, multi-coloured or carrying a rapper or DJ's name, these are good quality headphones that do the job they are designed for and do it well.

I've been on a personal quest over the last few weeks to find the best over ear headphones for commuting and office use. My first choice (for some reason that now escapes me) was the BlueAnt Embrace Stereo Headphones with Apple Remote - Black, a flabby sounding but nice looking pair of cans. The second, the humble AKG K451 Foldable Mini Headset - Black ultra portables which, although great for their £50ish price tag, didn't quite cure my itch for outstanding sound on the go.

So, they say third time's the charm and so far I quite agree.

The Phillips Fidelio M1 has received some very mixed press on the web, from 5* What Hi-Fi award winning praise, to barrel scraping indifference on YT. So it was with some trepidation that I bought a pair (from another source), knowing there was a significant risk of disappointment.

Beginning with the packaging, which is solid but spartan; along with the very limited accessories: one fabric smartphone ready 3.5mm jack cord and a "Designed Carrier Pouch" (yeah, designed as cheap as possible). And, you also get a pretty useless little booklet about the headphones and other Fidelio branded audio products.

Nowhere on the packaging or in the brochure does it give you any information on Phillips Warranty or Guarantee. This had me so worried that I actually contacted Phillips customer support to see if my headphones were genuine. Fortunately they are. According to Phillips, registering the product with proof of purchase activates a two year guarantee.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
I use these with an IPhone 4. I travel in and out to central London on the train and its 1h 15mins so I have plenty of time to listen to primarily podcasts with about an 85% podcast/15% music split. I also have a pair of similar priced and same design Seinnheiser headphones.

First impressions...
Good packaging and an expensive looking product. It did remind me of Apple type packaging.
The cable from headphone to connector is in two parts. This is not clearly stated in the documentation and I was a little confused until I found the long cable that connects to the headphones. The cable is nice and solid and wrapped in a fibre type sleeve. This was really good to see - both the quality of the cable and that you can replace it if you want a longer cable or it gets damaged.

The headphones fit well on the head and the 'ears' are well padded and there is good movement in them so they fit well. The headband is adjustable. A negative is that the headband is not overly padded at all. I felt this would be an issue but I have got used to it.

Sound....the main part....

At first I was disappointed. It sounded initially weak and poor and I was quite surprised. I know good headphones specifically take time to 'relax' over several hours of use then they are fine. It a bit like you used to have to run a new car in! The sound is now a lot better and seems to be actually continuing to improve. The podcasts are clear and 'warm' in their sound. The sound seems to nicely sit around my head rather than when wearing ear buds when the sound seems to be inside your ears. It makes listening far more comfortable and a far better experience. I will certainly stick with using these on a daily basis. They are not too big and having the bag to put them in is a good extra.
