I love this light - infact, I bought two. However, I think there are some things any potential buyer should know.

The colours and vivid and deep; it can provide atmosphere, light up a corner or an alcove, or work as a nightlight. However, it will NOT light up a room, and the effect will be GREATLY reduced in daylight (which you might expect).

The build quality feels good, the unit looks great, and the controller is fun and easy to use. However, they ARE expensive; DEFINITELY a treat or a luxury item. You can get coloured bulbs, or cheaper coloured lights for MUCH less.

Finally, I can confirm that BOTH of my units emit a faint but unmistakeable high-pitched electrical whining sound, which changes in frequency with the colours. I do NOT think this is a fault, and I expect that EVERY unit will do this. You should be aware of this if you intend to use this as a night-light next to your bed, or if you are sensitive to such sounds. It's a faint noise, but it is definitely there.

It is a nice design and a great concept but the product does not seem priced right. £100+ is a lot of money for this lamp.

Using the remote control you can decide which colour the lamp outputs. You can control the colour saturation (from saturated to pastel colours) and you control the intensity. There is also a mode where the light cycles through all the different colours; nice for parties.

The lamp will illuminate a wall or part of the ceiling in a room in a gorgeous colour of your choice. It is not powerful enough to illuminate an entire room, even a small one. As such, it is more of a decorative device than a useful lamp.

The remote control uses the radio spectrum so you don't have to point it directly at the lamp when changing light settings. You can't control settings on the lamp itself. The remote is powered by three AAA batteries. The Philips batteries supplied with our lamp lasted just one day but once we replaced them with some supermarket brand batteries everything worked ok again.

I'll admit that I got this just before my son was born to decorate the living room, but then decided to put it in his room as it provided an easy to use and flexible lighting solution for his bedroom. I placed it in the corner of his room, pointing upwards at the wall, and from early evening it can even illuminate his room adequately for reading a bedtime story.

At night, we leave it on red or orange, at minimal brightness, and it functions as a night light, and when we go in to see him in the morning, holding the brightness button on the remote makes the room fade up in brightness softly, like dawn (rather than the harsh flipping of a switch!)

Highly, highly recommended. Worth noting is that the price has recently gone up. I bought this at well under £100, not sure I would pay more than that now.

My Phillips Living Colours Mood Lamp went straight back. It's a shame because this could have (and at the price should have been) a really nice product. Some highstreet retailers are knocking these out at £159, and at that price you'd expect the product to at least be able to fulfil it's most basic purpose. In this case act as a light. Also Phillips have scrimped on some essentials whilst providing us with some needless extras.

The news is not all bad though, so lets start with the positives: the colours. Although not very bright, they are rich and deep - however - as I just said - they're not very bright and that has to be a major, major flaw. In fact, they're embarrassingly dim. As way of summing up, a Harry Enfield character springs to mind (nice but dim). At the end of the day I'm aware this is only a 'Mood Light' so I didn't have any unrealistic expectations of it of flooding the room with light, but I did expect it to be able to illuminate the corner of my room at least. It can't. The Light is very dull and barely lights up the wall higher than 3 feet when placed on the ground. The design of the light though is stunning, and the flattened base is good and stable - and at this price you'd want it to be. You certainly don't want it rolling off a side table and smashing. The remote too, looks great (kind of like an older iPod) and this, I'm please to report does work very well. That, as far as positives go, is it I'm afraid.

Now for the negatives: as I've already said, the major floor of this so called 'light' is the brightness - or rather lack of it. But aside from that there is one other really annoying thing. I've notice this trend recently more and more with items I buy, and that is, failure to supply and adequately lengthed power supply.

Bought this lamp few weeks ago and can say that I'm realy happy with it. This is realy great mood lamp with rich colors. Of course brighter light would be a plus, but it is not supose to be main lightning (although i use it as evening/night light in my small room when using computer).
There is slight buzzing, but noticeable only when placing ear near lamp.
Lamp has great feature: color changing with posability to set how often they change.

I initially bought the mini version of this which was a waste of money in my opinion, wasn't bright enough and turning it on and off/changing colours was a pain when tucked away.

This solved all those problems, the remote is fantastic and the light it gives off can fill my decent sized double bedroom well enough to use as a reading light.

The option to dim the light and change the saturation is also a great bonus as I'd often find I couldn't get a good compromise on the mini which had no option to do this. It also looks great, I have the clear version and it looks really nice. I read in another review about an audible hum, and mine also has this, not enough to be annoying but you can just about notice it which is a shame as the mini didn't have this problem.

I'm tempted to buy another at this great price now!

Amazon were great, easy to return the mini and then buy this, great customer service.
