New and improved SalonDry Pro 2300 W Philips HP8250 HairDryer--20% lighter, 30% more airflow

Finding the perfect dryer is the real key to trying out this look yourself. Look for a hairdryer that will maintain the health and vitality of the hair and protect it from over drying and excessive heat damage. Adjust the heat setting to suit your hair type. If you have fine, dry or coloured hair, use a lower setting and always keep the airflow moving. If you blow dry your hair more than once a week then it is a good idea to use a conditioning mask regularly to replace lost moisture and keep your hair looking and feeling healthy. An incredibly feminine way of wearing hair long and loose, this look became known as 'Easy Glamour' at Paris Fashion Week and is popular with celebrities including SJP and rising starlet, Amanda Seyfried. For this style, hair is kept romantically undone with rough partings and soft, flexible tumbling natural waves.

Fit and Fabulous Hair Starts Here

We know great hairstyles start with healthy hair. That's why we're topping you up with tools and knowledge to style your hair and be good to it too. A good hair dryer is a real styling must-have. quality dryers give you greater control, quick drying times and a smoother finish. And Philips hair dryers are designed to do just that.

Ceramic element

The ceramic element is included to prevent over drying. It issues infrared heat, which has a gentle warmth which helps dries your hair from within and protects it from over drying, without compromising on speed and effectiveness.

Removable air inlet grill

The air inlet grill of this hairdryer can be removed for cleaning. Remove and clean regularly to prevent build-up.

2.5 m cord

The longer length results in improved flexibility and ease of handling, so you can use it anywhere you want.

CoolShot

The CoolShot sets you hair and holds the style for longer. When you have finished drying a section, press the cool shot button and direct the cool airflow at your hair. This fixes your style and adds shine.

Volume diffuser

The volume diffuser has been specially developed to gently dry both straight and curly or wavy hair. The volume diffuser emits a gentle airflow and allows you to give your style volume and bounce. If you want to use the diffuser on your hair just snap the diffuser onto the appliance. To add volume at the roots, insert the pins into your hair in such a way that they touch your scalp. Make rotating movements with the dryer to distribute the warm air evenly through your hair. For a style with lots of movement and volume, use the diffuser attachment. Tilt your head and cup your hair into it, lifting up the hair to create volume at the root.

Drying tips

Curly or wavy hair: Hold the diffuser at a distance of 10-15cm from your head to let the hair dry gradually. In the meantime, you can style your hair with your free hand or with a comb. You can also scrunch locks of hair in your hand to model the curls and waves while drying. This prevents the curls from sagging or becoming frizzy.

Long hair: To dry long hair, you can spread out locks of hair on top of the diffuser. Alternatively, you can comb the hair downwards with the pins of the diffuser while drying.

Get the look:

During the daytime, opt for a 1970s style loose centre parting with waves through the lower sections. For the evening, lose the parting and sweep hair back or to the side so that the waves cascade softly through the full length of the hair.

1. Add mousse to freshly washed hair. Make a centre parting, and then roughly blow-dry all the hair until its 70-80% dry

2. Clip up the top half of the hair out of the way so you can continue blow-drying with a medium size round brush underneath.

3. Wrap a section of the hair around the brush and apply the airflow while half rolling and unrolling hair around the brush. This technique adds a wave to hair without stretching it. When the section is dry, roll it once more fully onto the brush. Allow the hair to cool before releasing it.

4. Repeat this technique all over the hair underneath, then release the top half of the hair and continue until all the hair is dry.

5. Loosen the waves with your fingers and then blow-dry on a cool setting.

Understand: This look works well on all types of mid to long length hair and can help to create movement and body even in fine, slightly damaged hair.

Care: Adjust the heat setting to suit your hair type. If you have fine, dry or coloured hair, use a lower setting and always keep the airflow moving. If you blow dry your hair more than once a week then it is a good idea to use a conditioning mask regularly to replace lost moisture and keep your hair looking and feeling healthy.

Create: This look is all about maximizing movement so don’t use too many products. A fist-sized amount of mousse is all you will need if your hair is fine. Mousse is great since it gives body and creates hold without stickiness and works best when used in conjunction with a hair dryer.

The dryer certainly looks very professional at first glance in a very fetching matt black and the diffuser and concentrator both clip on very easily, none of the wrestling to get them back off as you have with the usual push fittings, these have a dedicated grove to snap them into.

The unit has a lot of power behind it, but there are a few issues.

Firstly the heat settings, there is a cool air, and then two heat settings. The lowest heat setting didn't seem hot enough for practical hair drying, and the hot setting seemed more likely to singe hair and scalp than dry it. (It was ideal for drying our bird house after washing it, but I wouldn't like to risk it on hair!)

I was also put off by the switches, rather than sliding adjusters for the power and temperature, it had multi-positional buttons (like a light switch) which did tend to get unintentionally pressed whilst holding the dryer as the switches cover most of the front of the handle. This made it awkward to hold and manoeuvre without catching buttons and is not good if you have any kind of joint problems with your hands.

The dryer also has an ioniser function, which is supposed to make the hair shiny and less frizzy, but on the test subject it made the hair dull, fluffy and totally unmanageable.

It's also worth noting that the barrel of the dryer is quite long, more so than it appears in the product picture, so if you don't have particularly long arms it's a lot more awkward to hold the dryer at the correct distance and angle to do the sides/back of your head.

In all, the dryer does the job just, but it would be worth looking around for something with less issues.

This was an 'emergency' purchase as my old hairdryer broke in spectacular style and I couldnt find my travel one, so I needed a replacement quickly. After looking on the web at various models, this one seemed to tick all the boxes - long flex, powerful wattage, cool shot, variety of heat/speed settings, nozzle and diffuser attachments and the ionic feature which can be switched on or off.

Used for the first time today, the results are better than I expected, I have shoulder length hair which is thick, but fine and this dryer took less time than my old model to dry my hair to the point where I could style it. Nozzle attachment is great as it concentrates the air across a broader area than my old dryer nozzle did, so effectively it is the same width as a hairbrush. When dry, my hair was friz free and looked like I had used my straighteners and had a really glossy finish without using any products.

The icing on the cake is that it is a good looking dryer with its matt black finish and easy to handle as it is not too heavy, although it is a bigger hairdryer. I found the buttons easy to use, I prefer them to the slide variety and would say this is more like the models found in hair salons. Really impressed with my purchase and wouldnt hesitate to recommend as it is also excellent value for money.

Rather than repeat all the detailed information described on the page advertising the Philips SalonDry Hair Dryer, I'll give my own personal account.
While being easily manageable in the hand and of an acceptable weight without being cumbersome, I found the hair dryer performed perfectly as instructed. There are three heat settings, one of which is cool, and preferred to use the medium heat to dry my hair. The strength of the motor meant that it dried my hair relatively quickly and worked well with drying hair gels and sprays while styling the hair. The varying speeds meant I was able to easily control the hair while styling and ultimately created the perfect Mohican using the hair dryer in conjunction with hair glue and spray. I have recommended this product to friends as it looks very stylish and does everything it says it will do.

This is an excellent price point for such a good little hairdryer, well not so little actually.

Its very quick to dry my thick yet fine texture hair and it seems to reduce the static which my hair is very prone to.

I found it clumsy to use when styling but much lighter than my usual hair dryer.

Its a great purchase if your looking for a good quality hairdryer with multi heat and speed settings. I love it to be honest I prefer the weight and would gladly swap it for my usual and have done.

You will not be disappointed at all if you decide to purchase this as a replacement for an old dryer, the price is not indicative of the quality its excellent.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
I don't generally use hairdryers - I have hair which is naturally curly (if properly cut into layers designed to help curl) and the best way to achieve the right result with it - other than stick with my excellent hairdresser! - is to let it dry naturally. Most of the time I wash and go, and almost always will leave home with wet hair. And no, contrary to what mother said i don't get a cold by this behaviour.

However, winter she approacheth, and even I recognise its best to leave home with dry rather than wet hair as the temperature plummets. I've had an ancient small travel-type hairdryer, very simple, very light from years ago when my hair was all one length and needed classic smooth hairbrush and hairdryer styling - if my hair is too long the curl pulls out and doesn't look so nice. That little travel dryer is certainly adequate for the rare occasions I need to use it.

What attracted me to this is the volumiser, as the hairdresser uses this rather than the standard nozzle when he dries my hair after cutting it.

So, I've just put this rather large (compared to the travel one) multisetting, multi nozzle (standard, precision, volumiser) combi dryer - 2 speeds, 3 temperatures hot, warm, 'cool to set', plus a strange 'ionic setting' (apparently better for nearly dry hair to avoid firzz) - through its paces.

And I'm certainly pleased It has dried my curls a lot quicker than the other dryer. Though I'm not QUITE as big and bouncy as leaving it au naturel! But then, I didn't really expect to be - the dryer will be just for cold wintry days.

One disadvantage is that this is rather a big (though light in weight) item, and not as easy to manoeuvre as the small snub-nosed one I have.
