Philips SatinPerfect: worth the slight discomfort,
By
This review is from: Philips HP6570 SatinPerfect Epilator (Personal Care)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Programme (What's this?)
I have always fancied trying an epilator, my traditional hair removal method in the past being a quick once over with a disposable razor. The Philips HP6570 SatinPerfect comes with two head attachments, a cleaning brush, an adapator and a storage pouch. The unit was quick and easy to use, you select your attachment, plug in the adaptor and off you go. The active hair-lifting attachment lifts the hairs as you go.There was some discomfort, which I expected: a short, sharp pinching. It was definitely more uncomfortable on the longer hairs, so it's probably better to do as the manual suggests: shave first and epilate the shorter regrowth. The light was a useful touch, ensuring that you could see every single hair. After use, my skin did come out in small blotches, but these improved after applying some body lotion, and disappeared completely after a few hours. After using it, you just rinse the attachment and put it away. One week later, my legs are still feeling smooth. With regular use, the hairs should grow back smoother and finer, much better than the old razor stubble! Overall, I like it but, upon reflection, I think I might have preferred the Philips HP6572 Satin Perfect Trim Shape And Style Epilator with Luxury Bag and Three Attachment Heads with the shave, trim and style attachments and trimming comb, so that I could have also used the unit on the underarms and bikini line. For the few pounds extra, this would have provided a bit more versatility.

Attractive, Well-made, Corded Epilator,
By
This review is from: Philips HP6570 SatinPerfect Epilator (Personal Care)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Programme (What's this?)
The Philips HP6570 SatinPerfect is an attractive corded epilator that claims to make you "smooth in minutes, lasts for weeks". It comes in a medium sized box which contains the following six items:- Philips HP6570 SatinPerfect Epilator (white) - AC Power Adapter (white) - Active Hair Lifter Attachment (white) - Active Massaging Attachment (white) - Luxury Travel Bag (white) - Cleaning brush (black) The HP6570 itself is fairly heavy at 137 g, which immediately gives you the impression of a solid, well-made product. Its smooth shape fits well in the palm of your hand, no matter which way you hold it. Compared to the Philips HP6509 Satinelle Soft, the HP6570 is 39 g heavier, but its larger size makes it much easier to hold and handle. The head of the HP6570 is extra wide at 3.7 cm, which allows you to remove more hairs in one stroke. The textured ceramic discs are blunter and more comfortable on your skin than the standard, sharp metal ones. The ceramic discs also enable you to remove even the finest, shortest hairs with "ease". The built-in "Opti-light", on the front of the HP6570, is a single LED light that automatically comes on whenever the appliance is running. It illuminates the hairs, making it easier to see where you're going and where you've been. The person who I got this product for encountered a few problems. Don't hope to epilate your legs while watching TV or listening to music, as the HP6570 makes an unpleasant, rough, grating noise. Also, the HP6570 has a feature called "overheat protection" which automatically turns the epilator off when it gets too hot. This can be an issue if you have coarse hairs that require more time to remove, because the HP6570 will switch itself off multiple times in one session. The solution is to the use the HP6570 on the slower of its two speed settings, which allows it to run cooler. Overall I think the HP6570 is a very good product. The question is: does it really make you "smooth in minutes" and do the results "lasts for weeks"? The answer is, not exactly. Don't expect to be perfectly smooth after your first session. Multiple sessions over the course of several weeks will be required to obtain "smooth" results that last.

Better than shaving,

This review is from: Philips HP6570 SatinPerfect Epilator (Personal Care)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Programme (What's this?)
I have been using an epilator on and off for around 2 years. After getting out of the habit of epilating regularly and relying on razors I decided to try it again for the summer. This epilator is similar to the Braun Silk-Épil I have used in the past and comes with a variety of attachments which all fit into a handy little bag. The machine itself feels solid and well made and the cord is long enough to not cause any problems. As I had not used an epilator for a while I decided to shave first and then epilate the regrowth over the next few days to make it less painful. After a couple of uses my skin became more used to it again and whilst there was a redness for a while and a little discomfort, the smooth results were worth it. Epilation does take a while to make sure all the hairs are removed and the noise of the epilator is annoying. However I am going to stick with epilating now! Once you get into a routine of using it it is a lot better than shaving.
