Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

The new Philips GoGear HDD6320 30Gb hard disk drive jukebox combines a highly stylish design with an innovative interface, as well as providing compatibility with a number of the leading online music download services. The Philips GoGear HDD6320 jukebox brings a new level of ease-of-use and practical day-to-day enjoyment of listening to MP3 and WMA* music, as well as the ability to store and view photographs. The HDD6320 features 30Gb storage enough to store up to 15,000 songs or 8400 pictures. Audio, including voice memos or conversations can also be easily recorded via integrated microphones in the player, which store recordings as WAV files for playback via the headphones or on a PC.

The player features a backlit sensory touchpad and Philips’ acclaimed SuperScroll™ system for speedy and precise navigation through a music collection. Listeners can just tap or drag their finger along the touch-sensitive strip to navigate through their library of music and photos. Furthermore intuitive graphic icons, as well as album art, help illustrate menus and music tracks, while music collections are helpfully arranged into easy-to-understand categories such as Artist, Album, Genre, and Playlists. The navigation system also helps the user locate and view photos stored on the GoGear jukeboxes, enabling JPEG pictures to be shown on the large, clear and colorful backlit LCD screen. Pictures can be navigated in full screen mode or as an array of thumbnails, and can be viewed one at a time, or automatically in a slideshow accompanied by music.

Ease of use
The new Philips HDD6320 is designed to make it as easy as possible to load up the player with content quickly and without difficulty. Each GoGear player is supplied as standard with a USB cable for high-speed data transfer via USB 2.0. Philips has created a comprehensive range of optional accessories for consumers to extend and enhance their portable hard disk drive enjoyment. Battery life on the HDD6320 is up to 15 hours’ continual music playback** before recharging. These latest GoGear jukeboxes also have a speed charge capability where one hour of charging delivers 70% capacity.

PlaysforSure compatibility
To ensure maximum compatibility with the growing number of legitimate music download services, the new Philips GoGear HDD jukebox range also supports the PlaysforSure initiative from Microsoft®. PlaysforSure ensures interoperability of devices and services so that consumers can simply know their device and service will work together.

The PlaysforSure logo enables consumers to match the logos of both their playback device and preferred service. Consumers wishing to buy a Philips GoGear HDD jukebox will be easily able to check whether their preferred content supplier supports the PlaysforSure initiative, ensuring peace-of-mind that they will be able to fully enjoy downloaded content on their Philips player. A further key element of PlaysforSure is that it fully supports Windows® Media DRM10 (formerly known as Janus) digital rights management solution, which is currently employed by over 70 online services offering Windows Media content.

*Actual storage capacity will be less. Capacity is based on four minutes per song (128 kbps encoding for MP3 files and 64kbps encoding for WMA tracks) and pictures taken at 5 megapixel resolution.
**Battery life varies with usage.

    Pure Brilliance 3 May 2006
    By Terry
Just got this couple of days ago, and so far i find it simply fantastic, before this i did have an Ipod which was ok and i stress the word ok,

but this mp3 not only looks fantastic but the sound quality and loudness is by far one of the best ive had, epecially for the type of music i listen to as with my other mp3 players if i had the volume above a certain point it sound really distraught at first i thought this was due to headphones so i went through many a pair of headphones before realising it was infact the mp3 player itself that was at fault, but with this one i can have it at full volume and the sound is simply brilliant i hate walking down the road and hearing traffic etc, over the top of my music but this just drowns out any other sound.

the headphones i find and by far the best set ive had as they mould to the shape of your ear thanks to the rubber bits that come with it also you get 3 different types of rubber bits to match ur needs (Ear sizes) again with the volume turned up to full and the sort of music i listen to (korn, slipknot etc) the headphones really handle the heavy beats very well ,

also i find this mp3 a bit on the heavy side compared to other players but i find this as a bounus gives you the feeling of a well built and stable item

so for me this is a 5 star item if not more couldnt of asked for a better mp3 and the price is a bit high but again you get what you pay for and that would be hours and hours of listening pleasure with no problems

Looks and Substance 9 April 2006
    By A Customer
I was a late comer to MP3 and wanted to find the right product before I committed. This Philips player ticked all the right boxes, 30Gb capacity, colour display, fun touch-screen controls, album art, photograph viewer, voice recording facility, long battery life (15 hours) and fast charge facility, sleep timer, compact and great looking.

In practice it has done exactly what I wanted. The controls are, for me, intuitive and reliable. Everything I want to do is exactly where I would expect. The most commonly used controls are displayed on the body of the player and the menus are clear and intuitive. So far I've been able to find any special features I wanted on the first menu I tried. Very useful.

Additionally, and after a number of months of ownership, I still enjoy it when the blue backlit touch controls come on. It still looks great. However, yes, it does show fingerprints on the glossy black casing. A quick wipe on the sleeve seems to do the trick if I feel like admiring how it looks rather than simply listening to the music. Usefully, the surface does seems to be scratch-resistant as I've not picked-up a single one in four months, although I do keep the player in it's protective pouch when not in use.

It is easy to find tracks and, with over 3,000 on my player, that is important to me. The SuperScroll feature is so simple to use that I "discovered" it before reading the instructions and the search capability by song title, artist, album and genre has, unexpectedly, allowed me to re-discover some real gems in my music collection. The "Shuffle All" feature in combination with "All Tracks" is the best way to do this.

The sound quality is excellent (I haven't found the need to use the various and simple to use sound processing modes) although I chose not to use the supplied in-ear headphones, but rather my own AEG-K26P pair which sound excellent in combination.

The battery life is about the 15 hours claimed. However, I have the backlight turned down to its minimum setting when I am listening to music (rather than when viewing images) and set the backlight to switch off after 10 seconds. I'm sure that helps.

The process for putting tacks on the player is straightforward and I have had no problems whatsoever.

In summary, I am glad that I have an MP3 player now and I am glad that I waited for one that met my needs. An excellent player that does everything it claims to do very well and looks great too.

I bought this device a few weeks back and I am pleased to say I do not regret it. There is only a small piece of Philips software to install and this is merely a device manager for the player. There is also a version of WMP 10 which has a Philips plug-in to sync photos. I installed this version of WMP 10 over the top of my existing version (also 10) and it works fine.
I have noticed comments about the player being slow to sync, I have had no problems with the speed of sync'ing. Maybe some people need to realise this is a USB 2.0 device and will run very slow on USB 1.1! My advice when buying anything is RESEARCH! My PC isn't brilliant spec (p4 1.7, 512mb ram) but the device syncs fine - albeit I had to install a USB 2.0 PCI card.
If you have a problem getting Windows to recognise the device or it has a problem in device manager (indicated by yellow circle with exclamation mark) then check that you have the "Windows User Mode Driver Framework" enabled in services. Most people wont need to know this, but I have very tight security on my PC and this caused me a problem for a few hours. Again, research any problem you might have don't just assume the player is faulty.
Sound quality is excellent, much better than iPod. The ear-buds are good and do the job fine for me. The player can be a little slow to respond, but most players I've used are too.
Don't worry too much about the negative reviews on here, I think these people haven't looked into what might be causing a problem and have just blamed the player!
    There are some bad points:
Front gets smudged with finger marks easily. Need USB 2.0 for fast sync (ensure you check you have USB 2.0!). Syncs via WMP (some may find this bad, I like it). Cannot rip straight to the device (like my gf's Archos). That's it.....
