Bought this elsewhere (appliances direct) for under £200 at Christmas - bargain of the century. This delivers a cracking espresso shot every single time. I am a part time coffee geek so know a bit about coffee but am not a hobbyist, but as far as I am concerned this delivers artisan quality coffee every single time. In particular the steam wand is amazing, if you remove the panarello and steam your milk directly with the metal wand (I also remove the handle too) you get the best microfoam ever... (look on YouTube for how to videos, but essentially get a stainless steel jug, some good semi skimmed milk, put the tip into the milk and steam until the jug is too hold to touch).

You have sufficient control over the grind to make a difference and you will taste the difference between different coffee beans. The only downside is the regular cleaning :( but heck there's a certain joy to be had in being made to work just a little for such consistently great coffee. I 100% recommend anyone to buy this. After 3 months I can report absolutely no problems even in the very hard water area of East Sussex, though I do need to de calc every 3 weeks (buy the 3 pack of Saeco - it works wonders), which means spending about £4 (per bottle) to do that. I worked out that to drink 45 coffees a month between me and my wife using high quality Union coffee from e.g. Ocado, with all the cleaning and milk costs etc is about £0.44 a cup, vs about £2.20 to £2.50 for a coffee from our local Small Batch Coffee cafe. So basically we are saving about £2 a cup each time, getting the same experience. After 100 cups the machine has paid for itself which is where we are today! A free coffee machine (sort of). Maybe I should open up a cafe with it...

Before we would've bought this one, we had chosen a different machine which could only make filter coffee. I decided we should buy this machine so we waited a little. It was listed at £329 for a long time. I set an alert and waited patiently -- for about two weeks in total. Then one night it dropped to £199, but I was ready. Quickly ordered the machine and it's worth every penny. At around £250 it's still a good purchase.

The only problem I have is the frequency at which you have to descale this thing (once a month). The inner workings of the machine are more important to protect than getting worked up about it, so I do it.

Regardless, the device is wonderful.

The person who designed this must've been a genius, because the coffee maker is a joy to use. You don't really think about how something should be done, that intuitive it is. Very well done. It's clearly made with the end user in mind.

My £1000+ bean-to-cup machine broke after 10500 cups over 5 years and I was not keen to spend this kind of money again. After researching and reading all sorts of reviews, I decided that at £199 this machine sounds like good value for money. What an absolute gem of a machine!! I can honestly say that the coffee is nicer, the machine is simpler to use and the fact that you can set 'fluid quantity memory sizes' for you own mug sizes is just great! The lattes are just to die for!

Honestly one of the best deals going if you look for a bean-to-cup machine! I will (and have) advise my best friends to buy this machine!

We bought this machine (bean to cup) while looking for an espresso (ground coffee) machine. The price at 199£ was unbelievable and we ordered one. We havent regretted that decision as the coffee is excellent and I have produced cappucinos and lattes which taste as if bought from starbucks. Highly recommended buy and we have been converted to coffee connosieurs!

I purchased the Philips Saeco Intelia Focus HD8751/88 in late December 2012, it arrived promptly and and was making great tasting coffee to begin with.

I started to experience problems within a a few months when the display on the machine stopped working. I contacted Philips who arranged for the unit to be collected and repaired - I was told it would take upto 7 days yet the machine wasn't returned for over 3 weeks. The machine was repaired and the machine was supposedly descaled as well - this was obviously false as the descale prompt was highlighted within the first week of use.

I continued to use the machine yet within 3 months I experienced another fault where the coffee which was being dispensed was very watery and it had a tainted taste. I contacted Philips who arranged another repair of the machine. This time the machine was returned without any work being carried out - on contacting Philips I was told that the machine worked and if I wanted to have the problem looked into further that I would have to pay (even though it is still in warranty).

I have contacted Philips on numerous times yet cannot get any answers to this, I am told that I will be called back yet no one ever does. I have cleaned, descaled and tried different brands of coffee bean yet I am still experiencing the same problems.

This machine cost over £400 yet after 7 months I am forced into going back to an old filter coffee maker.

All in all, a complete waste of time, money and phone calls.
