The newly launched Philips Deep Fat Fryer HD6152 is equipped with a removable non-stick coating inner bowl, the oil can be poured out with ease. It is also designed with a removable lid with a large viewing glass window. You can monitor the food preparation process and clean the deep fat fryer with ease. Different kinds of food requires different oil-temperatures, you can adjust the temperature of oil by simply turning the adjustable temperature control, which ranges from 150 to 190°C with an accurate thermostat. The rise and fall baskets allow the oil to drip out from the food fried. The compact fryer includes wall housing so as to maximize the safety.

I did my homework before deciding on this deep-fat fryer. I chose this because the price was reasonable in comparison and it had all the features that mattered to me. I wanted a fryer that is easy to clean (all parts removable and can go into the dishwasher except for the housing); with a removable non-stick inner bowl (to pour out the used oil); a wire basket to raise up the cooking from or dip into the oil (to prevent spattering and ensure even-cooking); a large viewing screen (to check on the oil or the extent of frying); cool wall (to prevent scalding); a permanent filter (washable and no fuss or further cost to replace); a rectangular design (to allow fish-frying) and a good capacity (to take away the chore of repeated frying in small batches).

I am happy to report that my boys are tucking in the food, which goes to prove that somehow some food taste better after deep-frying rather than being oven-baked (no more turning food over once).

I chose a fryer that offers most features since I'd hate to regret later on about my fryer not being able to do this or that, and if it's any help, so far I have none.

I prefer to spend a bit more - get a better product - and then keep it for longer. So I also did my research, but the end result is disappointing. The fryer is physically quite big - so check out that it will fit in one of your kitchen cupboards. It's also bulky on the worktop. I find that the top chip frying temperature isn't quite hot enough. The chips don't quite achieve that super-crisp out coat that I want.

Then there is the filtre....if you can call it that. In my opinion it does nothing to limit the smells of cooking.

Overall it feels as if the Philips has fallen foul of the biggest problem afflicting modern houshold electrical items - unnecessary complication.

Shame really. I wanted to like this appliance - but I could not recommend it.

Two good things. It's easy to clean, and because of its cooking shortcomings we'll be eating less fried food in the years to come.
