This is a very nice kettle, but unfortunately the temperature control is (in my opinion) utter pants. It seems completely dependent on the amount of water in the kettle - only fill it to 1 cup, and it will boil the water even at the lowest temp settings. At about 3 cups, it stops around 80C. That's not the 40-100C control I was hoping for. One more thing - the temperature knob is not continuous but has 8 or 9 discrete settings.

Having read many reviews I settled on this kettle. I only drink black coffee, herbal tea or diluting juice so I do not need and certainly do not want boiling water (I scalded myself once) so 40° is the perfect temperature for me. I don't adjust the temperature much so the dial isn't moved about, but it is easy to adjust the temperature for visitors. I didn't notice any tainted taste. So far so good but I have only had it for a short time and if it starts to fail in one year and one day I shall not be a happy bunny - I like it too much so, I would have to buy a new one! I couldn't say how much less energy it uses but it must be quite a bit. It really looks like and works just like an ordinary kettle apart from the temperature select.

Very pleased, will heat a single mug, and temperature control avoids a steamy kitchen and wasted electricity.
Only small snag is that for smaller quantities you need to dial up a lower temperature than for 4 or 5 cups, but I soon got used to this.

This is not a metal kettle
