Even at the higher price, this is a good deal and are genuine Philips, I was sceptical till I read another review then ordered 2 boxes. The same bulbs in Tesco are £10 each, with delivery these ones equate to around £3.50. I bought 20 in total for my house and am pleased, they emit a useful amount of white light, not too yellow or blue, the light can best be described as very similar to CFL, only from a much smaller bulb! The beam spread isn't great but is typical, the manufacturers have to focus the light that they have because there isn't any to spare, no getting round it, especially in such a small form factor at present.

Being Philips they are good quality and have a 12 month guarantee, some of the ones out there look like they might be a fire hazard, but these are well built.

The CRI is good for this size of bulb (>80), though anything that has a CRI of <90 won't be that good at reproducing reds, so I wouldn't put them solely in a kitchen, I would recommend to anyone fussy about such things to combine them either with a 50W halogen or the Phillips 19248000 (8W Master LED CRI>90) over the work area, if you can get one in your fittings.

I am one of those people who likes to cut back on the use of fuel of any kind so long as it does not interfere with my quality of life. So far over the past few years I have managed to cut my fuel bills by about 50% without any loss of quality of life. When I saw these lights advertised I decided to give them a go. It happens that in my kitchen I have a set of 4 spot lights and I have been using the new energy-saving 35 Watt versions to save on a few % of the energy. Today the 4 Watt bulbs arrived and when I unpacked them I saw what appeared to be one small bulb in the unit. Surely these bulbs could not do the job of the 35 Watt bulbs that were already in the unit. Well I was wrong. These bulbs using just 4 Watts each produce more light than the 35 Watt versions that I had been using. The light was cleaner, whiter and brighter than any that I have used before. Bear in mind that the original unit took 4 x 50 Watt bulbs and now these 4 Watt bulbs do the same job. I am stunned. If they have the life that they claim these bulbs will be well worth paying the retail price. I just cannot believe how good they are and I am not easily impressed by anything these days. Well done Philips you have made a serious contribution to the reduction of energy bills for those who buy these bulbs. If I could have awarded more than 5-stars I would have done.

We have 6 spotlights in our kitchen, currently using 50 watt bulbs. As there are only 4 in one box we have replaced 4 of the lights until we can get some more bulbs - but in the meantime it's good for comparison.

These are supposedly 35 watt equivalent - and comparing these to the 50 watt, I'd say that's probably about right. You can see they're not as bright, and where I have them over the kitchen worktop area, I do notice the slight lack of brightness (I hate dim lights!) .
These do not get as hot - there are actually spots in my bedroom (above the kitchen) where, barefooted, you can usually feel warm patches above the spotlights if they have been on for a couple of hours (they do have what I believe are called Fire Boxes) - but with these, I can't feel anything.
The running costs should in theory save me about 90% in electricity used (Philips state 85% if you are swapping 35 watt bulbs for these) and these bulbs should last for 5 years (I'll have to let you know on that front!)

If you're swapping 35 watt bulbs for these then you'll probably not notice any difference.

LED lighting really seems to be the way forwards and these bulbs fit the bill.

At 4 watts each, they claim to be produce the same light as a 35 watt halogen spot and, based on fitting them in my kitchen, I would tend to agree (although I haven't specifically checked with a light meter).

The light is pretty directional (i.e. it is a true spot and not a flood like the CFL bulbs are) and the light is a nice and warm.

Also, when compared to CFLs, these light immediately and remain cool to the touch.

A few years ago, these were very pricey items, but now I consider them to be very good value, especially if you are using in an environment where you have lighting on for long periods (such as our kitchen which can be a bit dark with the lights off). They should pay for themselves very quickly.

Recommended.

Like many I suspect I was attracted to this offer from some of the discount notification websites and wondered if, at this price (£27.99 when I purchased), it was too good to be true. I am pleased to say this appears to be a bargain so I am very happy to have found this listing. Key details as follows:

Bulbs: These are individually presented boxed in retail packaging that details these to be 35W Halogen replacements. The bulbs themselves are pure white in terms of the outer housing so this can mean they stand out slightly when you use them in the typical chrome/brushed steel light fittings but, to me, they look fine. I have used these throughout the house and found the light output to be good. One such example is where I replaced 4 x GU10's in a fitting (found I had mixed these 4 between 50W and 35W!) and the LED's were a perfect replacement. Slightly less output than the halogens of course but totally acceptable and a nice light too between 'warm white' and a 'brilliant white'.

The lights are more directional than the ones they replaced but, for me, this is fine too. The light fitting I have is adjustable so I could move to suit - not sure how this will be for down lighters.

Of course the main reason for purchase of these is the low-energy use. My kitchen light fitting had a total of 170W of bulbs which have now been replaced with just 16W. Fantastic and look forward to paying EDF a few pennies less as a result! Bulb life is quoted at 5-years based on 4-hours use per day so, at this rate, they will more than pay for themselves through not buying more halogen bulbs alone.

The seller packaged the items well and sent using Royal Mail and all came through very quickly.

I didn't realise just how many GU10 fittings I have through the house so have managed to use all 10 but need a few more so, as I am so pleased with this, have just ordered another 10!

Overall a great product and fantastic value and highly recommended.
