5.0 out of 5 stars With this I just steam through the ironing, 30 Jun 2007
By Fatboy (Cumbria, UK) - See all my reviews
I purchased this from Amazon for £128 this was including next day delivery.

When you first open the box, there is a quick guide on one of the flaps of the box or if you wish (as I did) you can read the instruction manual, this instruction manual was clear to understand. After removing the paper cover off of the iron's sole plate, I removed the water tank and filled it with tap water, this tank holds 1.4 litres of water and fits into the steam generating base which is also used to hold and store the iron, although if you wish you could just use your ironing board's iron rest if you so desired, its just a matter of what you find easier, the 1.4 litres of water that the tank holds is enough for up to 3 hours of ironing, you can also remove this tank at any point during the ironing to refill it. The steam generating base is a bit smaller than a lot of other steam generator's that I have saw, I would say the footprint of it is about the same size as an A4 sheet of paper.

Next you set the iron temperature as you would on any iron 1, 2, 3 dots, on 1 dot you will not get any steam as this temperature is not hot enough to produce steam which is the norm for most if not all types of iron. After a 2 minute wait the iron is ready for use, when you use the iron you can press the little button that will be where your index finger is to produce steam, or above this there is a "steam lock" button which produces stream constantly. I ironed several pairs of STUBBORNLY creased jeans and T shirts and the the Philips GC8210 made easy work of removing the creases, I was truly astonished as to how much better/easier the Philips GC8210 was compared to my old Tefal iron, I would go as far as saying that with my experience and reckoning, the iron time would be cut by almost half.

There is also an anti calc function, basically with this you remove a cap on the side of the steam generator and this in turn allows you to rinse the boiler and the parts that the water flows through, doing this gets rid of any lime scale that may have accumulated, this process should be carried out monthly according to the user guide. There is not a lot else I can say about the Philips GC8210 apart from, if you want to cut your ironing time significantly and you want an excellent steam generator iron which is not overly expensive then personally I don't think you can beat the Philips GC8210, it is the best iron I have ever used and the results are fantastic, I cannot recommended it more highly.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you hate ironing, you'll love this., 31 Jan 2007
I hate ironing, my missus hates ironing.

It's got to the stage where we only iron if we are forced into it. We send all of our clothes out to be ironed.

Not anymore!

After finally losing patience with our current iron which would drop water onto our clothes and stain them, or stick to certain materials, or just not do a good enough job, I decided to order this blindly based on it's specs.

Held a lot of water (1.4l) and seemed very powerful (100g/min continuous). When it arrived , I thought I'd run it through some tests to see how good it really was.

I picked a few pairs of jeans and crinkled up cotton shirts that had been in the laundry for weeks (because I hate ironing!). Filled the water reservoir from the tap, gave it a couple and minutes and gave it a go.

I switched on continuous steam and watched in amazement as the iron glided along my jeans and left a perfectly flat line in it's wake. Literally a minute later I was holding a pair of perfectly ironed jeans without any creases in sight. 10 minutes later everything was done.

My missus tried it later that night and ironed a giant Ikea bag worth of clothes in 40 minutes. She said it's the first time she's ever enjoyed ironing.

I estimate that it's cut ironing time in our house by about 70%, it's that quick.

5.0 out of 5 stars quick & easy, what a great iron!, 11 Aug 2007
By R. Guthrie "porschefly" (London, England) - See all my reviews

Bought this model based on other's recommendations here on Amazon. I'm very pleased with the product. It is incredibly easy to 'put together', and withing 2 minutes you're good to go. As described, it sails through an entire basket of ironing in an hour or so. I've had to replace my ironing board cover - with all the moisture generated by the new iron, you need a cover that fits snuggly, offers some padding and is well ventilated. I owned a regular Philips iron before (10 year old model) and happily replaced it with this new steam-generator. Money well spent !
