Product Description

Obsessed with sound

Get the most out of your music with the Philips Mini hi-fi system featuring 2-way Bass Reflex Speaker System for rich sound. Optimise your sound settings by adjusting the balance for different music genres with Digital Sound Control.

The FWM154 mini hifi system from Philips can read music MP3 formats from a CD and can record your music onto a cassette tape.

Play MP3-CD, CD and CD-R/RW discs

MP3 stands for "MPEG 1 Audio layer-7.6 cm (3"). .MP3 is a revolutionary compression technology by which large digital music files can be made up to 10 times smaller without radically degrading their audio quality. MP3 has become the standard audio compression format used on the world wide web, allowing quick and easy audio file transfer.

MP3 Link

The MP3 link connectivity allows direct playback of MP3 content from portable media players. Besides the benefit of enjoying your favourite music in the superior sound quality delivered by the audio system, the MP3 link is also extremely convenient as all you have to do is to plug your portable MP3 player into the audio system.

40 W RMS Power

This system has 40 W RMS total output power. RMS refers to Root Mean Square which is a typical measurement of audio power, or rather, the electrical power transferred from an audio amplifier to a loudspeaker, which is measured in watts. The amount of electrical power delivered to the loudspeaker and its sensitivity determines the sound power that is generated. The higher the wattage, the better the sound power emitted by the speaker.

Very pleased 2 Jan 2011
I bought this for a teenager as a Christmas present and they are very pleased with it. It gives plenty of oomph (more than is wise if you want a peaceful home life!) and does everything you could ask for without fuss, including the now rare in-built tape deck (my main reason for choosing this model). Not the sexiest looking unit (well it is a Philips after all) but does the job well. The only real limitation is the lack of proper tone controls / graphic EQ, but the four presets are good enough considering the money.

Very quick delivery and easy to set up.

Go for it.

Fantastic 13 Oct 2011
I love this stereo, after my old JVC mini system died I really struggled to find a replacement. It was a 14th birthday present, I'm now 27 so I can forgive it for breaking.

I needed the following features:
CD and MP3 CD playback
Auxilary input (at least one proper RCA input) for connecting my RCA switch.
Buttons on unit for most functions (mainly folder search buttons).
And finaly wooden speakers, I like to wall mount them and some new stereos have plastic speakers which aren't ideal for this.

I mainly play my music in two ways:
1. From MP3 CD, this way I can get around ten albums on one disc, my major bugbear with many new systems (even very pricey units) is that they support mp3 cd but don't give you a folder search button so you can't jump to the album your after easily, this one however does.
2. From my PS3, I have my entire music collection stored on a 500gb hard drive (yes I have alot of music) which is connected to my PS3, and I can use my PS3 as a modern jukebox allowing me to play music through my stereo but have the album art, track name, artist, album info and visualisation displayed on my TV. This is a fantastic and very convenient way of playing music, but to do this I need my stereo to have an aux input which thanks to the iPod manufacturers have stopped including (I have an iPod but it's far more convenient to select music from my PS3's menu using the blu-ray remote whilst sitting than messing with an Ipod) anyway thankfully this stereo has an input on the rear (it also has a jack on the front for connecting an mp3 player), I have an RCA switch connected to the input allowing me to switch between PS3 and sky box (for watching music channels).

Overall I'm very satisfied with this stereo it sounds good and has all the the features I need and is suprisingly cheap, I highly recommend it.

Pros:
Good sound/Volume
all major buttons present on unit
proper RCA aux input
3.5mm Jack input on front
Good reception on radio

Cons:
Only one
It doesn't display ID3 tags (won't give you track or artists names when playing MP3 files)

Note: at first you might sometimes think the remote isn't working but it's fine, there are four buttons at the top: Disc, Tuner, Aux and MP3 link you just need to remember to press the corresponding one or the stereo won't respond.

By Prem
this is an excellent product for the price and has a tape deck as well which are hard to find now adays, the only gripe I have is that it does not have a earphone/headphone input which I could have used for my cordless headphones but overall a good product.
