I ordered a chandelier type ceiling shade for the living room and I wanted a clear bulb type light to use with it, and these clear Halogen bulbs are ideal for that purpose, I wanted bright light as my eyesight is not as good as it used to be and these 105w bulbs provide more than enough light, the colour temperature of these bulbs is similar to that of the old incandescent bulbs which is far superior to the dull yellowish light given off by those energy saving fluorescent bulbs, plus you don't have to wait a month of sundays for them to warm up as the light on these is instant.

Energy saving bulbs and fluorescent tubes have a high frequency flicker which whilst it is indiscernible to the naked eye, can adversely affect your eyesight over time, these Halogen bulbs don't suffer from that, so are better for your eyesight in the long run.

Another advantage of these bulbs is that they are dimmable via any dimmer switch, Eventually LED bulbs will become brighter, cheaper to buy, and more reliable, but until then I'll carry on using these Halogen bulbs.

Highly recommended.

Bought two of these to replace one's previously bought from High Street, but now unable to find. Arrived in good time & well protected. Certainly buy more in the future as they are the best equivalent to the old 100W bulbs that i have found. Certainly bright enough.

Items arrived on time in good condition. Like these bulbs because they provide high lighting that can be dimmed and have long life expectancy

Having tried several Philips brand Halogen 70w (92w equivalent) bulbs for the 4 uplighters in our living room, I can only say that I am very very disappointed. We do not have dimmers by the way. They are OK and give off a great bright light initially, for a few months say, and then get progressively dimmer and more yellow - and most have given up at about 6-7 months. If you look closely at the halogen unit inside is completely blackened and little light is getting out. They also produce quite a lot of heat. Compared to the old 100w tungsten bulb (3 for a pound?)this is terrible value and I am climbing on the stepladder to replace them about three times as often as the double life 100w I used to buy. Progress? I am installing good quality, fast start-up CFL bulbs now which are much more energy saving (20w) and seem to retain a more constant light for much longer. AJ

I was beginning to think it wasn't possible to find dimmable bulbs at this reasonable price - but I was wrong!

I purchased a pack of two of these just under a year ago. Both have lasted less than 12 months although neither are in high use areas. Very disappointing especially with a brand name like Philips, it states on the box they should last 2 years/2000 hours, well I've done the maths and they don't! I see the cost has come down considerably since I made my purchase but even so how I yearn for the days of cheap, simple, efficient, good light level incandescent light bulbs, some of which are still functioning in my house after several years.

The bulb in our hall left the place so gloomy and took so long to brighten I just had to make a change. Normal 100W incandescent bulbs weren't doing the job either. These are, well, brilliant. Nice white light without being harsh, we have them in those big paper lamp shades. Hope they last the 20k hrs quoted. Look out for my follow up review; if it's much before 2023, Philips will get slagged off. Bet they're nervous...

It's a light bulb and a good replacement for the incandescent 100w which it replaces.
not much more one can say really.
