5.0 out of 5 stars Multi region? 9 Nov 2005
By A Customer
This drive may be 'multi region capable' but as delivered it is a region 2 device.

To save everyone Googling for the hack, here it is. Press:
Eject
System menu
Go to Preferences
Press 135566
Press Down on the Region code menu to display 0
System menu
Standby

5.0 out of 5 stars Its (99.9%) the daddy. 21 Sep 2005
By I. Wood
Does exactly as it says, plus in case your wondering it also plays XVid (Popular DivX alternative) and DivX6 (only the video, not the interactive menus/subtitles etc).

The only things you could say were possible downsides are the loading mechanism, which isn't as bad as it sounds and the lack of an optical digital out might put some people off.

The player itself is nice & slim, but the same width as most other dvd players, the menus are simple enough to use.

I did have some problems with DixX/XVid play back being jittery, skipping frames, but discovered this was a problem with "Packed BitStreams", a quick search of the internet will give you many tools that can correct this before you burn your files to disc.

Well worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars I take that back 31 Dec 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase
I recently entered a review that stated that this product was NOT multi-region capable as stated..

I was very wrong - it is multiregion capable - Look up.. at the top of this listing there is a little line of text that tells you the "secret" behind enabling the multi-region capability. I didn't see that before, and when customer service didn't tell me about it, I was ready to send this product back.

When I took a screen shot of this page to send to customer services with my return - I just happened to spot the small print :-) -

At any rate, once you use the instructions included in amazon's "how to make this product multi-regional" tutorial, it works a treat.

As such, I can now totally recommend this product to anybody who want's to play nearly ANYTHING on their dvd player.
