Your dream player with flawless, true-to-life picture quality and the ability to play virtually any disc! The Philips DVD player delivers your movies and music entertainment experience.
HDMI 1080p upscaling delivers images that are crystal clear. Movies in standard definition can now be enjoyed in true high definition resolution - ensuring more details and more true-to-life pictures. Progressive Scan (represented by "p" in "1080p") eliminates the line structure prevalent on TV screens, again ensuring relentlessly sharp images. To top it off, HDMI makes a direct digital connection that can carry uncompressed digital HD video as well as digital multi-channel audio, without conversions to analogue - delivering perfect picture and sound quality, completely free from noise.
Whatever you're watching, on whatever TV, Screen Fit ensures that the picture fills the whole screen. Annoying black bars on the top and bottom are eliminated, without any tedious manual adjustments to make. Simply press the Screen Fit button, choose the format and enjoy your movie in full screen.
Progressive Scan doubles the vertical resolution of the image resulting in a noticeably sharper picture. Instead of sending a field comprising the odd lines to the screen first, followed by the field with the even lines, it writes both fields at the same time. A full image is created instantaneously, using the maximum resolution. At such a speed, your eye perceives a sharper picture with no line structure.
With DivX® support, you are able to enjoy DivX encoded videos and movies from the Internet, including purchased Hollywood films, in the comfort of your living room. The DivX media format is an MPEG-4 based video compression technology that enables you to save large files like movies, trailers and music videos on media like CD-R/RW and DVD recordable disc for playback on your DivX Ultra Certified® Philips device. DivX Ultra combines DivX playback with great features like integrated subtitles, multiple audio languages, multiple tracks and menus into one convenient file format.
The Universal Serial Bus or USB is a protocol standard that is conveniently used to link PCs, peripherals and consumer electronic equipment. Hi-Speed USB devices have a data transfer rate of up to 480 Mbps - up from the 12 Mbps of original USB devices. With Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Link, all you have to do is plug in your USB device, select the movie, music or photo and play away.
Convert the contents of your favourite CDs to MP3 files on your Philips product and store them directly on a thumb drive or on your portable media player through a USB cable. Enjoy the convenience of creating MP3 files right in your living room, without a PC and even while the CD is playing.
EasyLink lets you control multiple devices with one remote. It uses HDMI CEC industry-standard protocol to share functionality between devices through the HDMI cable. With one touch of a button, you can operate all your connected HDMI CEC-enabled equipment simultaneously. Functions like standby and play can now be carried out with absolute ease.
Personalise your DVD player's wallpaper with your favourite photo. My Wallpaper lets you upload your favourite photo to be the wallpaper of your Philips DVD player. My Wallpaper works with most photo formats and you can even change the contrast on your uploaded photo to create unique lighting effects. No more boring generic welcome screen when you turn on your DVD player. My Wallpaper is easy to use and fun for everyone.

The DVD player that does it all....Quality throughout!,
By MJ (Manchester UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Philips DVP3580/05 DVD Player (DivX,USB MP3 Creation,HDMI,1080p Upscaling and Progressive Scan) (Electronics)
Having used the DVP3580/05 for a few weeks now i can honestly say...IMPRESSIVE! In operation the unit is easy to set up and feels quality too with up to date looks, the remote control is small and nicely laid out. It plays everything i have thrown at it so far..avi video or Divx as the format is known,mp3's sound great, jpeg pictures look stunning as do DVD's. I have always liked Philips as i still have 2 older players that i purchased 5 or 6 years ago and they still work like new so from past experience..the players are durable. Using the DVP3580/05 in HD is simply stunning, the upscaling of older DVD's works a treat and there is a noticable difference in image quality etc. Sharp images and excellent colour reproduction and great sound. The unit seems nice and quiet in operation too. On to the USB port situated at the front of the unit...I have used different size memory sticks and all worked perfectly playin avi/divx video, pictures and mp3's. I experimented with external hard drives, I connected a Maxtor 80gb 1st..the unit recognised it instantly, the unit even recognised that the hard drive was split in two(partitioned),i simply pressed the usb key on the remote along with no2 key on remote to access the 2nd partition. Amazing! Philips say that the unit will not recognise partitions. Well mine does :-). I now have a Maxtor 320gb hard drive permanently connected via the usb port. I made the external hard drive using a powered external hard drive enclosure and a spare hard drive. I would recommend using a powered hard drive rather than non powered i.e use a hard drive that has its own external power supply. Also ensure the hard drive or usb sticks are formatted in fat32.All in all the DVP3580/05 has done everything i asked of it and more. Nice to see technology that actually works and lives up to its advertised specification. There is a firmware update for the unit on the phlips website and it is easy to install via the usb port on the player. Full instructions also on the philips website. All in all a great dvd player for the money. If you buy this dvd player and your tv is HD then dont forget to buy a hdmi cable. Decent cables can be found here on Amazon cheaply enough. As for the comment on a review about the player not working with his Sony tv...My neighbour has a Sony LCD HD 20S300 and the philips works perfectly so maybe the reviewer has an isolated issue with his Sony tv. I have hooked this DVD player up to an LG LCD HD tv and a Panasonic tv and it worked flawlessly. Recommended! Note: To turn the philips dvp3580 dvd player into a multi region player to get this do the following 1.turn on player and open disc tray (with no disc in it) 2.press the "set up" button on the remote 3.use the up and down key's on the remote and select "preferences from the menu
4.while in this menu press the following keys on the remote 1,3,8,9,3 and then you should the word "region" and the number 2.use the up and down keys on the remote and select "0" and press enter. 5. press the "set up" button again to exit then the process is complete. Please note this might work for other various models from philips, the model DVP3520..just change the above code to 138931 Hope this helps :-)

Seems good :),

This review is from: Philips DVP3580/05 DVD Player (DivX,USB MP3 Creation,HDMI,1080p Upscaling and Progressive Scan) (Electronics)
Bought from Amazon, good price and fast delivery as usual. Decided to go for the HDMI as my TV has been HD ready for 4 years but never seen any HD, so thought I'd give it a try. Player is sturdy and stylish enough with plenty of features for the adventurous and was easy to setup once I'd read the manual. Picture does look sharper (you'll need an HDMI lead) and Philips is usually a decent brand, so overall happy with my purchase. Only slight gripe comes when I tried to register the product with Philips, which seemed like a good idea with the advances in HD technology but it looks like a bit of a scam as once you've input your contact details, the rest of the links don't work!
